A push button switch and methods for manufacturing the same result in increased manufacturing efficiency and increased design freedom. The push button switch includes a key top, a dome section and a leg section which are integrally formed from a silicone rubber material. The key top includes a colored section formed by penetrating the coloring dye of a dye impregnated ink below the upper surface of the key top. The push button switches are formed into a rubber cover configuration by charging a mold for forming a plurality of the push button switches with a silicone rubber material. The dye impregnated ink is then applied onto the surface of each of the key tops by either a wet printing process or a sublimation transfer technique, and is subjected to a heat treatment which causes the dye to penetrate into each of the key tops.

A car-borne electric cigar lighter includes a receptacle having a spring contact for receiving the heater element of the lighter for energization. A pair of spaced electrially conductive connecting plates form part of the electrical circuit to the spring contact. A circuit breakable electrically conductive spacer including a heat resistant, form-retaining resilient plate of an electrically insulating rubber, e.g., silicone rubber, penetrated between opposite surfaces with a thermally fusible, electrically conductive portion made from a low melting point metal, e.g., tin foils, to be in contact with the two connecting plates on both sides of the spacer forms an electrical connection between the plates through the tin foils. In case of overheating, the tin foils are melted down to open the electric circuit to the spring contact without losing the mechanical integrity of the spacer to serve as an insulator between the connecting plates.

The inventive interconnector, which is used for electrically connecting two arrays of electrodes on two circuit boards, etc., is a striped sheet composed of alternately arranged strips of an insulating adhesive hot-melt resin and strips of a conductive adhesive hot-melt resin composition. The interconnector is prepared by stacking a film of the insulating resin coated on one surface with the conductive composition, integrating the stack into an integral block and slicing the block in a plane perpendicular to the surface of the stacked films. Alternatively, the interconnector is composed of a matrix of an insulating adhesive hot-melt resin and regularly distributed spots of a conductive adhesive hot-melt resin composition. Such an interconnector can be prepared by stacking alternately numbers of the above mentioned striped sheets and sheets of the insulating adhesive hot-melt resin one on the other, integrating the stack into an integral block and slicing the block in a plane perpendicular to the running direction of the conductive strips in the conductive sheets.

Method for the preparation of a hot-melt adhesive interconnector

The invention relates to an improvement in the so-called flip-chip method for electrically connecting bonding pads of a semiconductor device, e.g., IC chips, and electrodes of a circuit board. In place of the conventional bumps formed of a solder alloy on the bonding pads, the bonding pads in the invention are formed of a material having electric conductivity and rubbery elasticity so that the reliability of the electric connection can greatly be improved.

Method for the assemblage of a semiconductor device

The invention provides a very efficient and reliable method for electrically connecting the electrodes of an electronic device, e.g., IC chips, and the electrodes of, for example, a glass-made circuit board substrate with good repairability. Thus, the electrodes of the IC chip are each first coated with an electroconductive thermally meltable adhesive resinous composition to form a resinous bump, the IC chip is mounted on the substrate with the adhesive-coated electrodes contacting with the respective electrodes of the substrate, and remelting and then solidifying the resinous bumps so that the electrodes are bonded and electrically connected together. As compared with the conventional methods in which an electroconductive thermosetting resinous composition is used for the bumps on the electrodes, the electrical connection can be obtained with a smaller thermal effect and good replaceability of the IC chip found unacceptable with an acceptable one.

The invention provides an electrothermal hot-melt type thermal transfer ink ribbon having a multi-layered structure used in thermal printers having a multi-stylus electrode head. Different from conventional ink ribbons of such a type composed of an electroconductive base film as a resistive layer, a vapor-deposited aluminum layer to serve as an electric pass to a return electrode and a layer of a hot-melt ink, the inventive ink ribbon has an additional layer as a heat barrier between the aluminum layer and the hot-melt ink layer so that the heat generated in the resistive base film and reaching the ink layer is radially diffused to produce a remarkable temperature gradient within the dot decreasing from the center to the periphery thus to provide a possibility of gradation control of the optical density of the printed dots by means of the voltage adjustment.

The invention provides a socket-type connector for connecting a flat cable and a circuit board and the connector has a very simple structure and is free from the problem of corrosion in the metal-made parts in addition to the high reliability of the connection. The connector is formed of an insulating base plate with a plurality of parallel slots for receiving each one of the exposed ends of the cable wires and an anisotropically conductive rubbery sheet bonded on one surface of the base plate, the sheet coming into contact with the ends of the cable wires put into the slots while the terminals of a circuit boards are contacted with the other surface of the anisotropically conductive sheet to establish unidirectional electric connection between them on the opposite sides of the sheet. The flat cable placed on the base plate with the cable wires in the slots is fixed at the position with a cover member having spike pins piercing the flat cable and thrusted into the base plate.

Pressure sensitive resistor elements are provided which serve as an on-off switching device and comprise an anisotropically electroconductive sheet which is formed of an insulating rubbery elastomer as a matrix within which many electroconductive fibers are dispersed and oriented in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the sheet, an electrode provided on each surface of the sheet, and an insulating layer interposed between at least one of the electrodes and the sheet. The resistor elements can remain insulating in the absence of a compressive force between the electrodes and contribute to electric conduction in the presence of the compressive force.

A pressure sensitive multiple resistor element is proposed whereby two or more variations of resistance can be obtained simultaneously by applying a single compressive force. It comprises an anisotropically electroconductive composite sheet exhibiting varied resistance between its opposite surface as a result of the compressive force applied thereto, a set of electrodes provided on one surface of the composite sheet, another set of electrodes provided on the other surface, and a means for applying the compressive force to the composite sheet through the electrodes. The anisotropically electroconductive composite sheet is formed of an electrically insulating rubbery elastomer as the matrix within which many electroconductive fibers are dispersed and oriented in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the sheet.

Pressure-sensitive multiple resistor elements

A novel and improved rod-shaped interconnector having a structure of an electrically conductive material and an electrically insulating material, at least one of them being flexible, arranged alternatively in strata, which is provided with electrically insulating coating layers on the lateral surfaces having no direct contribution to electric conduction. The interconnectors are safe from the defective phenomenon of surface leakage especially in a highly humid atmosphere.

The pressure-sensitive resistor comprising an electroconductive elastomer, in which an electroconductive particulate material is dispersed, two electrodes placed on the opposing surfaces of the elastomer, a means for providing a compressive force between the electrodes and a means for adjusting the compressive force, works on a novel principle that the elastomer composite exhibits a positive coefficient in the curve of compression vs. resistance relationship when the compressive force is varied in a region exceeding an inversion point at which the resistance of the elastomer as measured in the direction of compression is minimal. The coefficient in this positive region is smaller than in the ordinary negative region, so that the variable resistance of the resistor can be controlled very delicately together with the decreased contribution of the uncontrollable contact resistance.
