A polyarylenethioether primary melt formed article having a Hunter whiteness higher than 30% and a parallel light transmittance Tp higher than 60%, as measured for a sheet with a thickness of 0.3 mm, at the process for obtaining the article which comprises producing a polyarylenethioether according to the polymerization reaction comprising a dehalogenation/sulfidization reaction between an alkali metal sulfide and a dihaloaromatic compound in a polar organic solvent by carrying out the reaction with the addition of an effective amount of a halo-substituted organic compound to obtain a stabilized polyarylenethioether, and then subjecting the polyarylenethioether to melt extrusion. The melt formed article thus produced can be subjected to further melt processing to produce a secondary melt formed article or structure of polyarylenethioether.

Transparent and little colored polyarylenethioether primary melt

A graft copolymer is obtained by graft-polmerizing a vinyl or vinylidene monomer onto a rubber trunk polymer which comprises a polyalkylene oxide monomer comprising 4 to 500 alkylene oxide groups together with an ethylenic unsaturation, and a conjugated diene and/or an alkyl acrylate. This graft copolymer alone or in a mixture thereof with another thermoplastic resin, because of the presence of the polyalkylene oxide monomer unit incorporated in the rubber trunk polymer, provides a resin composition possessing excellent antistatic property, which, practically, is not lowered by washing.

Antistatic resin composition

A multiply grafted copolymer is obtained by graft-polymerizing onto non-elastic trunk polymer particles (a) a monomer mixture (b) comprising an elasticity-imparting monomer selected from conjugated dienes and acrylates, a polyalkylene oxide monomer comprising 4 to 500 alkylene oxide groups together with a terminal double bond and an optional ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (c) in order. An antistatic resin composition comprising this multiply grafted copolymer alone or a mixture of this copolymer and a thermoplastic resin compatible therewith can utilize the rubbery polymer component (b) more effectively than an antistatic resin composition comprising a graft copolymer obtained by graft-polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (c) onto a trunk polymer comprising a mere copolymer of a monomer mixture (b), and thus can provide an improved antistatic effect.

Multiply grafted antistatic resin composition

A graft copolymer is obtained by graft-polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer onto a rubber trunk polymer which is a copolymer of a polyalkylene oxide monomer comprising 4 to 500 alkylene oxide groups together with an ethylenic unsaturation, and a conjugated diene and/or an alkyl acrylate. By adding an anionic surfactant to a base resin which comprises this graft copolymer alone or a mixture of this graft copolymer and another thermoplastic resin, an antistatic resin composition can be obtained. The resin composition thus obtained possesses excellent and permanent antistatic property that is not lowered by washing or wiping as is the case with conventional antistatic resins comprising an antistatic agent.

This antistatic resin composition, wherein the rubber trunk polymer forms a bridge structure, not only has, per se, an excellent antistatic property but also an antistatic property which undergoes substantially no change upon washing, for example, with water.

A phonograph or video disc comprises at least one unsaturated nitrile copolymer and has therein an unsaturated nitrile content of from 40 to 90 percent by weight, and the disc exhibits a Clash-Berg flex temperature of from 50.degree. to 120.degree. C, an absorbed impact energy of at least 0.5kg.cm. when tested with a test specimen thereof of a 2-mm. thickness by a Dynstat impact test according to BS-1330-1946, and a Shore D hardness of from 75 to 95.

Scale is formed in a closed system wherein an exhaust gas containing sulfur dioxide is treated with an aqueous solution containing an organic acid alkali salt to remove the sulfur dioxide in the form of gypsum from the exhaust gas. The method disclosed herein prevents formation of scale in such a closed system.

Method for removing sulfur dioxide from exhaust gas

Sulfur dioxide can be removed from a combustion exhaust gas and converted to gypsum by first scrubbing a sulfur dioxide-containing combustion exhaust gas with an aqueous alkali sulfite solution to form an alkali bisulfite-containing aqueous solution and then treating, within a closed system, the thus formed aqueous bisulfite solution with a calcium compound. The efficiency of the sulfur dioxide removal can be increased greatly by adding a portion of alkali sulfite aqueous solution circulating in the system to at least a portion of filtrate from the gypsum separation process to precipitate metallic ionic impurities contained in the filtrate in the form of salts and separate these salts by filtration, and then recirculating the filtrate from the salt separation process to the absorption system.
