A lamp capable of efficiently dissipating heat generated in a semiconductor light-emitting element is provided. A lamp which emits light includes: a mounting board on which a semiconductor light-emitting element is mounted; a first housing thermally coupled with the mounting board; and a second housing including a power receiving unit which receives power for causing the semiconductor light-emitting element to emit light. The first housing is disposed closer to an illuminated area than the second housing is, and includes a first exposed surface exposed at least to the illuminated area.

The orientation of fluorescent lamps is detected in a manufacturing method for a direct backlight unit that alternates orientations of adjacent fluorescent lamps. In a preparation step of the manufacturing method for the backlight unit of the present invention, a plurality of fluorescent lamps are prepared. In each of the fluorescent lamps, a length (a) from a first sealed portion of a glass bulb () to a non-phosphor layer () area is shorter than a length (a) from a second sealed portion to a non-phosphor layer () area (a&#x3c;a). In a detection step, the difference between the lengths is detected with use of a sensor. In an installation step, the fluorescent lamps are arranged with use of the detection results so that the first and second ends alternate on a same side of a housing.

Method for manufacturing direct backlight unit, fluorescent lamp and backlight unit

An object of the present invention is to provide, without increasing the costs or decreasing the quantity of light, a fluorescent lamp that is less likely to have the bridge and the constituent tubes damaged while being handled and has improved handleability, as well as to provide a manufacturing method therefor. It is arranged so that the distance between the first and second constituent tubes gradually becomes smaller from the base side of the lamp toward the turning portion side of the lamp where the discharge paths turn. It is arranged so that the value of D/Dis within a range of 0.05 to 0.70 inclusive, where Dis the distance between the first and second constituent tubes being measured at the bridge connecting points on the base side, and Dis the shortest distance between the first and second constituent tubes on the turning portion side.

Fluorescent lamp having meandering discharge path and manufacturing method of the same

A lighting system includes a fluorescent lampand a main bodyfor attaching the fluorescent lampthereto. The main bodyis provided with a socket assemblyfor the attachment of the fluorescent lamp, and an electronic ballastfor operating the fluorescent lampat dimmed levels (as well as at the full light level). The fluorescent lampis composed of a discharge tube formed of four U-shaped glass tubes that are connected together to form a square in plan view. Each glass tube has an inner diameter of 13.5 mm, and the discharge tube is filled with a rare gas containing neon and argon (at 50:50 ratio by volume).

A lighting system includes a fluorescent lamp and a main body for attaching the fluorescent lamp thereto. The main body is provided with a socket assembly for the attachment of the fluorescent lamp , and an electronic ballast for operating the fluorescent lamp at dimmed levels (as well as at the full light level). The fluorescent lamp is composed of a discharge tube formed of four U-shaped glass tubes that are connected together to form a square in plan view. Each glass tube has an inner diameter of 13.5 mm, and the discharge tube is filled with a rare gas containing neon and argon (at 50:50 ratio by volume). When operating the fluorescent lamp at the full light level, the electronic ballast applies the nominal lamp current of 0.43 A.

In a fluorescent lamp having a plurality of glass tubes that are connected with each other to form a discharge path, spacers that do not drop off even with insufficient accuracy of a gap between the glass tube are provided in a gap between the connected glass tubes, so as to improve the gap compression resistance and the torsion resistance. Each spacer is composed of a plurality of tonguelets and a bridge. The tonguelets are in contact with surfaces of the glass tubes and are connected by the bridge that is directed in an axial direction of the glass tubes.
