Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte solution containing a sultone compound represented by the Formula 1 below (wherein Rto Rrespectively represent a hydrogen, a fluorine, a hydrocarbon group with 1 to 12 carbon atoms that may contain fluorine atom(s), n represents an integer of 0 to 3, and when n is 2 or 3, the two or three Rgroups are independent from each other and the two or three Rgroups are independent from each other), and an ethylene carbonate having a hydrogen atom substituted by a fluorine atom. Also disclosed is a lithium secondary battery employing the nonaqueous electrolyte solution. This nonaqueous electrolyte solution does not cause an increase in the internal resistance of a nonaqueous electrochemical device and improves the lifespan characteristics of the device. The lithium secondary battery containing the nonaqueous electrolyte solution exhibits greatly improved cycle charge/discharge characteristics at high temperature, and has excellent charge/discharge load characteristics.

The present invention provides a non-aqueous electrolytic solution for a lithium secondary battery, wherein the lithium secondary battery includes, as a cathode active material, a composite oxide in which at least 35% by mole of a transition metal included in the composite oxide is manganese, and wherein the non-aqueous electrolytic solution includes an unsaturated sultone.

A polyvinyl acetal resin varnish which is so low in stimulus property, toxicity, environment-polluting property, offensive odor, and inflammability that no problem is caused in practical use, and which is high in safety, low in viscosity, and thus favorable in workability, and an application of the polyvinyl acetal resin varnish are provided. As an organic solvent for dissolving the polyvinyl acetal resin, there is used a nonaqueous solvent, preferably carbonate ester, and more preferably a mixed solvent composed of cyclic carbonate ester and chain carbonate ester, into which the polyvinyl acetal resin is evenly dissolved regardless of its type, resulting in varnish which is high in safety and low in viscosity. Since the varnish has an action of gelling the organic solvent, the varnish can be used as a gelling agent in various applications.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

Monofluoromethyl ethylene carbonate, difluoromethyl ethylene carbonate and trifluoromethyl ethylene carbonate are provided as novel compounds. These compounds are very useful as solvents because they are chemically and physically stable, have a high dielectric constant, can readily dissolve organic substances and have a wide application temperature range. These compounds have excellent charge and discharge cycle characteristics, have a high flash point, and are safe as non-aqueous elecytrolytes. Hence, batteries using these compounds withstand voltage and have excellent charge and discharge cycle characteristics.

The novel polymer of the present invention comprises structural units derived from at least one compound selected from a group of the compounds represented by the above general formulae (I) to (IV). The polymeric solid electrolyte comprising the above novel polymer as a polymer matrix exhibits high ionic conductivity and is chemically stable.

The present invention relates to an ionically conductive polymeric gel electrolyte for batteries having high ionic conductivity and sufficiently high solid strength. The invention has an object to provide a solid battery which prevents internal short-circuiting even if no diaphragm is used and which has high reliability, by using the ionically conductive polymeric gel electrolyte. Disclosed is an ionically conductive polymeric gel electrolyte, containing at least a polymer matrix, a non-aqueous electrolytic solution and an electrolytic salt, wherein at least one kind of a halogen-substituted carbonic ester is contained as a solvent of the non-aqueous electrolytic solution. Also disclosed is a solid battery having the ionically conductive polymeric gel electrolyte as a constituent.

A process for removing a diol from a cyclic carbonic acid ester containing the diol as an impurity, which comprises bringing a cyclic carbonic acid ester containing a diol as an impurity into contact with a synthetic zeolite in the presence of a chain carbonic acid ester. A non-aqueous electrolytic solutions which has self-distinguishing property, low reactivity to metal lithium and high withstand voltage is provided. The non-aqueous electrolytic solutions of the first invention comprise, as electrolyte, lithium salt preferably LiPF.sub.6 and, as solvent, phosphoric acid esters of the following general formula [1]; ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group or an alkyl group substituted by one or more halogen atoms and at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 represents an alkyl group substituted by one or more halogen atoms. The non-aqueous electrolytic solutions of the second invention comprise, as solvents for electrolyte, trimethyl phosphate, one or more linear carbonates represented by the following general formula [3]; ##STR2## (wherein R.sup.6 represents methyl or ethyl group and R.sup.7 represents a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms) and one or more cyclic carbonates and, as electrolyte, LiPF.sub.6 ; wherein content of the trymetyl phosphate is 1 to 10% by volume of the solvents for electrolyte. The non-aqueous electrolytic solution is suitable for a cell using carbon material capable of being doped and dedoped with lithium ions as a negative electrode active material and complexed oxide of lithium and a transition metal as a positive electrode active material.
