An image forming device that uses a power transformer (T) such that no action delay and performance degradation/malfunction occur even in a power save mode, thereby achieving high energy efficiency. Circuits () of the image forming device are divided into to two blocks (A, B), and the power transformer (T) has two sets of windings (TA, TB), one for one of the blocks (A) that always needs power feeding and one for the other block (B) that needs power when necessary. Switches (SW) are provided on lines (Lto L) extending from the latter block (B) such that these switches are opened to interrupt power supply when the device is brought into the power save mode.

Image forming apparatus with power saving characteristics

An image processing machine (F) such as facsimile machine includes at least one large scale integrated (LSI) circuit ( ) for executing image processing. A power supply unit ( ) feeds electricity to the respective large scale integrated circuits. The image processing machine includes a controller ( ) for lowering operation capability of some large scale integrated circuits when shifting into a power save mode. The image processing machine may further include oscillators for feeding clock signals to the respective large scale integrated circuits, and the control unit may cause the oscillators to issue the clock signals with a lower frequency when switching to the power save mode.

A toner image formed on the photosensitive body (21) is transferred to printing paper by applying a voltage from a transfer roller (25) in an image transfer section of an image forming device (1). The transfer roller (25) is provided with a transfer voltage generating circuit (31) connected to a control unit (30). Information about an optimum transfer voltage is gathered from a look-up table (34) provided in a memory (33), in accordance with environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity in the device (1) which are detected by a sensor (35). The voltage to be applied to the transfer roller (25) is determined by the control unit (30). The voltage applied to the transfer roller between sheets of printing paper is also changed in accordance with the detected environmental conditions.

Image forming device

The image recording device includes a paper feed device for feeding a recording paper, a photosensitive body, a toner feeding unit, a module for forming a toner image on the photosensitive body, and a transferring roller. The photosensitive body is opposed to the transferring roller such that the recording paper fed from the paper feed unit is nipped between the photosensitive body and the transferring roller. The image recording device also includes a voltage generator for generating a voltage to be applied to the transferring roller. The voltage to be generated by the voltage generator is adjusted such that transfer of the toner image onto the paper is properly carried out. The collective resistance of the transfer roller and photosensitive body is detected and the voltage generated by the voltage generator is adjusted accordingly.
