A photoelectron spectrum of oxygen 1s is obtained from an analysis of the anode by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A first peak positioned in vicinity of 1360 reciprocal centimeters and a second peak positioned in vicinity of 1580 reciprocal centimeters are obtained from an analysis of the carbon material by Raman spectroscopy. A half band width &#x394;Wof the photoelectron spectrum is about 3 electron volts or more. A half band width &#x394;Wof the second peak is about 19 reciprocal centimeters or more. A ratio I/Iof intensity Iof the first peak to intensity Iof the second peak is from about 0.15 to about 0.3 both inclusive.

A battery with the high capacity, the superior cycle characteristics, and the superior initial charge and discharge efficiency, and an anode active material used for it are provided. The anode active material contains at least tin, cobalt, carbon, and phosphorus as an element. A carbon content is from 9.9 wt % to 29.7 wt %, a phosphorus content is from 0.1 wt % to 2.2 wt %, and a cobalt ration to the total of the tin and the cobalt is from 24 wt % to 70 wt %.

Anode active material and battery

An anode and a battery capable of improving battery characteristics such as cycle characteristics are provided. A coating containing at least one from the group consisting of oligomers having a polyene structure and derivatives thereof is provided on the surface of an anode active material layer. The anode active material layer contains a substance containing Si or Sn as an element as an anode active material. By the coating, oxidation of the anode active material layer is inhibited, and decomposition reaction of the electrolytic solution is inhibited.

A battery capable of reducing swelling is provided. A battery includes a cathode, an anode and an electrolyte. The anode includes a coating containing a SO-containing compound, and the electrolyte contains an electrolyte salt having reduction power. The electrolytic solution contains 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolane-2-one. Fluorine ion content in the electrolytic solution is preferably from 10 weight ppm to 3200 weight ppm. Thereby, chemical stability of the electrolytic solution is improved, and cycle characteristics are improved. The present invention is effective for the case using an anode active material containing Sn or Si as an element for an anode.
