A colorant for plastic containing a halogenated phthalocyanine pigment (A) that satisfies conditions (1) to (4) below: (1) the average number of halogen substitutions is at least 2.0 but not more than 7.0, (2) the halogen distribution width is at least 5, (3) the amount of aluminum phthalocyanine and halogenated aluminum phthalocyanine is not more than 1.0% by mass, and (4) the central element is at least one element selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, manganese, iron, cobalt, zinc, nickel and copper. As a result, a colorant for plastic can be shown that can color a resin without changing the mechanical or chemical properties of the resin, and in particular can produce a plastic molded article having essentially no migration, extremely low discoloration due to heat, and no deformation such as warping and distortion.

A method for producing a halogenated organic pigment comprising a halogenation step of halogenating an organic pigment with a halogenating agent, wherein the halogenating agent comprises one or more N-haloimide compounds selected from the group consisting of trichloroisocyanuric acid, a metal salt of dichloroisocyanuric acid, tribromoisocyanuric acid, and a metal salt of dibromoisocyanuric acid. There is disclosed a self-dispersible aqueous pigment dispersion and preparing method thereof, the dispersion comprising an aqueous solution, particles of a pigment and a water-soluble pigment derivative, said particles being dispersed in the aqueous pigment dispersion in a concentration within the range from 2 to 25 wt. % based on the amount of the aqueous pigment dispersion, wherein a part of the water-soluble pigment derivative is adsorbed on the surface of the particles of the pigment to form dispersed particles comprising the particles of the pigment adsorbed by said part of the pigment derivative, and the remaining parts of the water-soluble pigment derivative are free in the dispersion without being adsorbed on the surface of the pigment in a concentration less than the critical flocculation concentration on which flocculation is initiated on said particles of the pigment dispersed under said concentration. The pigment dispersion has high dispersibility in an aqueous system and excellent dispersion stability over time, and is applicable to an inkjet recording liquid, which provides excellent light-resistance, water-resistance and hue of printed image, and simultaneously reveals excellent discharge stability at the nozzles of ink-jet printer.

Self-dispersible aqueous pigment dispersion

A method is disclosed for dispersing a pigment to obtain a pigment dispersion. The method involves dispersing 100 parts by weight of a pigment, 0.1 to 30 parts by weight of a specific pigment dispersing agent and 5 to 300 parts by weight of a water-based resin in 100 to 2,000 parts by weight of an aqueous medium having a water-soluble organic solvent concentration of 4 to 15% by weight. Pigments are obtained which are suitable for the production of water-based coating compositions or water-based inks excellent in fluidity, storage stability, gloss of a coating, sharpness and tinting strength.

The above pigment-dispersing agent provides a water-based pigment dispersion which forms a water-based coating composition or water-based ink having excellent gloss, excellent clearness and high tinting strength, and the gloss, clearness and tinting strength of the water-based coating composition are comparable to those of existing oil coating compositions.
