To provide a strip connecting apparatus and a method therefor which are less costly, short in welding time and high in welding quality. A strip connecting apparatus is provided with: a surface coating removing device for removing insulative surface coating of end portions, to be welded, of a leading strip and a trailing strip before cutting the strips; a cutting device for cutting the end portions, to be welded, of the leading strip and the trailing strip; and a welding device for overlapping the cut end portions of the leading strip and the trailing strip and seam welding the cut end portions with each other.

Strip connecting apparatus and method therefore

A strip joining apparatus is provided wherein a time which a line is stopped is shortened, a number of installation spaces is decreased and precise notching may be performed. The strip joining apparatus comprising a first carriage comprising a shearing means for shearing each of the back end of the preceding strip and the lead end of the succeeding strip in a direction approximately orthogonal to the traveling direction of the strips, a welding means for sequentially welding, along a shearing surface, a location where the back end of the sheared preceding strip and the lead end of the sheared succeeding strip are contacted by abutting or overlapping, and a first side notching means for side notching a weld lead end portion of the weld location provided extending approximately above a weld traveling direction of the weld location, the first carriage provided so as to be capable of moving in the weld traveling direction; and a second carriage disposed facing the first carriage and comprising a second side notching means for side notching a weld back end portion of the weld location and constituting a pair together with the first side notching means

Strip joining apparatus

An abutting end portions of the strips are heated from below to a temperature range where annealing effects are obtained by means of a movable heating apparatus which performs high-frequency induction heating and a laser beam (or arc or electron beam) is irradiated from above, at the same speed as that of the movable heating apparatus, to laser beam weld (or arc or electron beam weld) the abutting end portions.

Method of joining strips in a steel strip continuous processing line

In a welding electrode protecting machine, welding electrodes are protected against a surface treating agent on strips to be welded by applying a proper amount of electrode protecting agent onto surfaces of welding electrodes prior to or during welding operation. A seam welding machine includes a carriage (6) adapted to move in a direction orthogonal to a direction in which strips (1a, 2a) to be welded are fed, a pair of rotatable disk-like welding electrodes (8a, 8b) disposed on the carriage (6) for welding together the strips (1a, 2a) by pressing the strips (1a, 2a) to each other at surface portions thereof along which the strips are to be welded together as the carriage (6) is moved, electrode protecting agent application roll-like members (21a, 21b) for applying an electrode protecting agent (29) onto rotating surfaces of the welding electrodes (8a, 8b) while being in physical contact with the welding electrodes (8a, 8b) under pressure, the electrode protecting agent (29) which is charged from tanks (30a, 30b) by pumps (31a, 31b), and removing roll-like members (25a, 25b) disposed on the carriage for removing the electrode protecting agent (29) remaining on surface portions along which the strips (1a, 2a) to be welded were welded together at a work side relative to the welding electrodes (8a, 8b).

Seam welding machine and method for protecting welding electrodes

A flash welding machine is capable of cutting ends of a pair of preceding and following weld members 1, 2 by means of a shear device 26, 27 and then flash welding them with each other. The flash welding machine can coat an appropriate amount of combustible fluid on the cut end surfaces of the weld members 1, 2. When a first end sensor 31 and a second end sensor 31 sense widthwise leading ends of the weld members 1, 2, a first and a second nozzle 35, 36 start coating the combustible fluid on the cut end surfaces of the weld members 1, 2 from the widthwise leading ends of the weld meets 1, 2. The nozzles 35, 36 stop coating when either one of the sensors 31, 33 senses a widthwise trailing end of one of the weld members 1, 2. Thus, it becomes possible to coat the combustible fluid on the cut ends of the weld members 1, 2 over an area extending from the widthwise leading end to the widthwise trailing end thereof.

Flash welding apparatus

An apparatus for connecting strips, in which a rear end portion of a preceding strip and a front end portion of a succeeding strip are cut and brought into contact to each other so that a butt welding of the contacted portions may be carried out to connect both the strips. A carriage is provided for carrying a cutting device for cutting the end portions of both the strips. A finish-machining device is provided for finish-machining the cut end faces of both the strips and a welding device for butt welding both the strips along a contacting line of both the strips is installed so as to be movable in a line substantially parallel with the contacting line of both the strips. Die wears and burrs incidental to cut faces can be prevented from forming and the highly accurate contacted state of strips can be achieved, thereby improving the quality of the welded portion.

Apparatus for connecting strips

A flash welding machine for butt welding the trailing edge of a preceding metal strip to the leading edge of a following metal strip in a rolling mill or the like. A preceding carriage and a following carriage are provided, movably mounted on a common set of rails. Each carriage is provided with electrodes capable of clamping respective ones of the preceding strip and the following strip when the two strips are in abutment with on another. Welding cylinders are provided for selectively joining the two carriers when the two strips are in abutment and the welding operation is to be performed, and then releasing the carriers from one another.

Flash welding machine

A flash and upset material formed in a flash welding operation can be removed by a machining of the flash and upset material for a short time after the welding operation by providing a workpiece clamping function by a main clamp and providing a welding current feeding function by an electrode table. The main clamp is heavy whereas the electrode table is light so as to be easily movable, whereby the electrode table in the light weight can be backwardly shifted for a short time after the welding operation and a space for inserting a tool holder equipping with a tool for machining a flash and upset material, is formed near the welded line. Since the flash and upset material can be machined during the time maintaining the softness of the flash and upset material at relatively high temperature for a short time, the machining can be attained by only pair of tools.
