A sulfonate group-containing copolymer is provided which comprising a structural unit (a) derived from a sulfonate group-containing monomer (A); a structural unit (b) derived from a (poly)oxyalkylene monomer (B); a structural unit (c) derived from a carboxyl group-containing monomer (C). The sulfonate group-containing copolymer comprises from 20% to 90% by mass in an acid form equivalent of the structural unit (c) in 100% by mass of all the structural units constituting the sulfonate group-containing copolymer. The product (P&#xd7;Mw&#xd7;n) of the ratio by mass P of the structural unit (b) to the structural unit (a) multiplied by the weight average molecular weight Mw of the sulfonate group-containing copolymer multiplied by the value n is from 950,000 to 800,000,000.

The present invention provides a carboxyl group-containing polymer composition that exhibits excellent anti-soil redeposition ability in fabric washing. [Objective] This invention is to provide a novel copolymer suitably applicable to a detergent composition having an excellent precipitation inhibitory ability and showing a good washing effect even under severe conditions of washing with water used to take Japanese bath. Hydrophobic group-containing copolymer and process for the production thereof

A liquid detergent builder which is highly compatible with a surfactant and gives transparent liquid detergents having extremely excellent detergency, a liquid detergent containing the builder, and a liquid detergent containing an acrylic acid-based polymer (salt) having excellent clay dispersibility and good compatibility with a surfactant. The liquid detergent builder comprises an acrylic acid/maleic acid-based copolymer (salt), wherein the acrylic acid/maleic acid-based copolymer (salt) contains maleic acid (salt) in an amount of 5-90 mol % per mole of the sum of acrylic acid (salt) and maleic acid (salt), and a product (MA&#xd7;Mw) of a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the copolymer (salt) and a proportion (MA (mol %)) of the maleic acid (salt) in the copolymer (salt) is 450,000 or less.

Liquid detergent builder and liquid detergent containing the same

The present invention provides: a specific water-soluble polymer exhibiting a high calcium-ion-scavenging function and further exhibiting a high clay-dispersing function even in high-hardness water; a detergent composition comprising the water-soluble polymer; and uses, other than the detergent composition, by making the best use of the characteristics of the water-soluble polymer. The specific water-soluble polymer, according to the present invention, has a calcium ion scavengeability of not less than 0.40 and further has a clay dispersibility of not less than 0.50 in high-hardness water and, preferably, includes polymers A and B as essential components wherein the polymer A has a calcium ion scavengeability of not less than 0.45 and wherein the polymer B has a clay dispersibility of not less than 0.65 in high-hardness water. The detergent composition comprising this water-soluble polymer has a good detergency even in high-hardness water.

Water-soluble polymer and its use

A low-molecular (meth)acrylic acid (salt)-based polymer having a good color tone is obtained by polymerizing an aqueous solution of at least one monomer component of a high concentration in the presence of an alkaline substance, wherein: 100 to 95 mol % of the at least one monomer component is a monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (salt) monomer (a) having 3 to 6 carbon atoms; and 0 to 5 mol % of the at least one monomer component is a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer (b) copolymerizable with the monomer (a) (wherein the total of (a) and (b) is 100 mol % ); and wherein: a persulfate salt and hydrogen peroxide are used together as polymerization catalysts; and the entirety of the alkaline substance as used is set not to be more than 99 mol % of the amount which is necessary for neutralizing all acid groups of the at least one monomer component; and wherein: the dropwise addition of the hydrogen peroxide is completed at the latest 10 minutes earlier than the completion time of the dropwise addition of the at least one monomer component; and/or the amount of the hydrogen peroxide as added till the initiation of the dropwise addition of the at least one monomer component is kept from exceeding 10% of the entirety of the hydrogen peroxide as added. The resultant polymer is useful for such as detergent compositions and water-treating agents.
