This invention provides an area monitoring sensor capable of setting a monitor area without connecting a terminal device for area setting. The area monitoring sensor that emits detection light in different emitting directions and senses an intruder within a monitor area based on reflection of the detection light, the monitor area being previously set as a polygonal shaped area defined by three or more sides, the sensor being provided on a first side out of the sides of the monitor area, and includes a side selecting unit that selects a second side other than the first side out of the three or more sides that define the monitor area based on an operation input; a distance specifying unit that specifies a distance between the area monitoring sensor and the second side that is being selected by the side selecting unit based on an operation input.

Area monitoring sensor

A photoelectric sensor according to the present invention, performs a determination as to whether or not an object is present in a predetermined detection area and provides (1) a enable signal to enable operation related to a hazardous source and (2) a disable signal to disable the operation based on a result of the determination. The photoelectric sensor determines whether or not the object is present within the predetermined detection area and whether or not the object is present at a reference point which is a different location within a measurement area from the predetermined detection area, based on a position information; and provides the enable signal when the object is absent from the predetermined detection area but the object is present at the reference point, and provides the disable signal when the object is present within the predetermined detection area and the object is absent at the reference point.

Photoelectric sensor for securing the safety of a work area

Light emitted from light-projecting elements constituted by LEDs (light-emitting diodes) or the like is transmitted to a light-projecting optical system of a sensor head portion through an optical fiber cable and projected from the light-projecting optical system onto an object. The light projected onto the object is reflected on the object. The reflected light is made incident on a light-receiving optical system. The light incident on the light-receiving optical system is led to a light-receiving element. The light-receiving element detects the incident light and generates a light-receiving signal based on the quantity of the detected light. The light-receiving signal generated by the light-receiving element is transmitted to a signal processing control portion of a main body portion through a light-receiving circuit and an electric wire cable.

Photoelectric sensor

A multi-optical-axis photoswitch incorporating a light emitting unit and a light receiving unit between which a multiplicity of optical axes exist. In the multi-optical-axis photoswitch, the ratio of the number of optical axes in which the quantity of received light exceeds a predetermined threshold value with respect to the number of all of optical axes is displayed by a plurality of display lamps disposed concentrically, in particular, by a bar graph. Thus, the operation can be indicated such that movement must be performed in a direction in which the value of the bar graph is increased.

A method of verifying an addition of a slave controller to a master controller of more than one area sensor, including an electrical mechanism which determines if a slave controller is present, or detects whether a cover having a projection or a shorting circuit is mechanically attached to the master controller if no slave controller is present, the presence of the cover indicating that no slave controller is added, and if neither the slave controller nor the cover is detected, an abnormality is indicated.
