The method for producing a granulated powder of the present invention includes the steps of: preparing an R&#x2014;Fe&#x2014;B alloy powder; and granulating the alloy powder using at least one kind of granulating agent selected from normal paraffins, isoparaffins and depolymerized oligomers, to prepare a granulated powder. The produced R&#x2014;Fe&#x2014;B alloy granulated powder is excellent in flowability and compactibility as well as in binder removability.

An apparatus for subjecting a rare earth alloy block to a hydrogenation process includes a casing, gas inlet and outlet ports, a member arranged to produce a gaseous flow, and a windbreak plate. The casing defines an inner space for receiving a container. The container includes an upper opening and stores the rare earth alloy block therein. A hydrogen gas and an inert gas are introduced into the inner space through the gas inlet port, and are exhausted from the inner space through the gas outlet port. The gaseous flow is produced by a fan, for example, in the inner space. The windbreak plate is disposed upstream with respect to the gaseous flow that has been produced inside the inner space. Also, the windbreak plate reduces a flow rate of the gaseous flow that has been produced near the upper opening of the container.

A milling apparatus comprises a mill for milling of an object material such as a rare-earth alloy. The mill includes a mill main body. A classifying rotor for classification of a powder is provided inside and at an upper portion of the mill main body. The mill main body has an outer circumference provided with three leg portions spaced equally from each other. Each of the leg portions supports the mill main body at a position above the center of gravity of the mill. Each of the leg portions is provided with a weight detector for detection of a weight of the mill holding the object material remaining in the mill. A flexible pipe is provided between the mill and a raw material feeder for supply of the object material to the mill. Another flexible pipe is provided between the mill and a collecting tank for collection of the powder. A controlling portion controls an amount of supply of the object material to the mill by a proportional-plus-integral-plus-derivative control based on a result of the detection by the weight detectors, for maintenance of a constant amount of the object material present in the mill.

Milling apparatus and milling method

A mixing apparatus comprises a mixing container having an opening. The mixing container is hollow cylindrical, having a length l.5&tilde;2.5 times an inner diameter. The mixing container is loaded with a powder such as a metallurgical powder to 30 % &tilde;80% of the capacity of the mixing container. The mixing container is tilted at 10 degrees &tilde;40 degrees off the horizontal level and rotated while a liquid such as a lubricant is supplied to the powder in the mixing container from a nozzle portion. The nozzle portion is constituted to prevent the liquid from discharging when the supply of the liquid is not needed. After the liquid is supplied, the nozzle portion is evacuated from the mixing container while the mixing container is rocked for mixing the powder with the liquid. Thereafter, the mixing container is tilted to position the opening at a downward location, and the mixing container is given rotation and impact while unloading a mix from within the mixing container.
