A surface light source apparatus includes an end face for taking in light emitted from a light source and a main surface for emitting the light. The surface light source apparatus further includes a plurality of structure bodies formed on an opposed surface disposed opposite to the main surface in the surface light source apparatus, each of which has a reflecting surface facing the point light source. Each structure body has a cut-off portion which removes a portion on the reflecting surface in a longitudinal direction of the structure body and in a height direction.

The coding device includes a predictive value data generator, a predictive error data generator, a variable-length coded data generator that codes the predictive error data to sequentially generate variable-length coded data, in which a code length is variable and equal to or shorter than a set maximum length, and a coding controller. The coding controller sequentially calculates an accumulated value by accumulating a difference between the code length of the variable-length coded data and a target code length, and sequentially sets the maximum code length based on the accumulated value and the number coding time performed by the coder such that the accumulated value is zero or lower.

A light source device which is used as the backlight device and does not generate sound is provided. One or more flat substrates each having a light emitting element on its surface side are supported by a chassis having a conductive flat plate surface so that back surfaces of the substrates are opposed to the flat plate surface. The substrate comprises first wiring conductive thin films on a surface side of an insulation substrate, and one or more second radiating or wiring conductive thin films on a back surface side of the insulation substrate. Two terminals of the light emitting element are connected to the two adjacent first conductive thin films. A potential of at least one of the second conductive thin films is fixed to have a constant potential difference or preferably fixed to the same potential with respect to that of the flat plate surface of the chassis.

The embodiments of the present invention provide for methods, devices, and systems adapted to perform adaptive quantization processes. The adaptive quantization processes of the present invention are adapted to provide one or more adaptive quantization modes based on one or more previous pixels and their associated coding modes. The output of an adaptive quantization process may include coded data and a coding mode, indicating whether the coded data is pulse code modulation (PCM) data or differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) data.

A high-level synthesis device includes: a process extraction section for extracting an available process which performs data communications through a path having no loop from all processes described in an inputted behavioral description; a circuit synthesis section for producing partial circuits realizing the respective available processes and connecting the partial circuits in accordance with the inputted behavioral description so as to synthesize a circuit; and a delay insertion section for inserting a delay circuit in a path connecting partial circuits realizing the available processes so that data communications between the partial circuits through a plurality of paths are synchronized with each other. With the high-level synthesis device, it is possible to simulate synchronous communications between asynchronous processes in accordance with the inputted behavioral description including the description of the synchronous communications, and synthesize a circuit which has a small scale on the whole and operates at a high speed without providing control lines for handshaking.
