Catalyst for use in a process for purifying exhaust gas from gasoline engines of a fuel-direct-injection type

A method of purifying an exhaust gas, includes: disposing a NOx trapping catalyst in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, the NOx trapping catalyst including: a metal substrate including cells, a corner portion of each of cells having an acute angle; and a catalyst layer supported in the metal substrate and including a noble metal, a heat-resistant inorganic oxide and a NOx trapping material, the catalyst layer having pores formed by addition of a pore formation promoting material, and the NOx trapping catalyst: adsorbing NOx in the exhaust gas when an exhaust air-fuel ratio is in a lean state; and desorbing and reducing the adsorbed NOx when the exhaust air-fuel ratio is in a stoichiometric state or a rich state; and removing the NOx by the exhaust air-fuel ratio being shifted between the lean state and the rich state.

Exhaust gas purifying method

An exhaust gas purifying catalyst which is disposed in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, includes: a substrate; and a catalyst layer, supported in the substrate and including: noble metals including platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd); a heat-resistant inorganic oxide; and a NOx trapping material. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst adsorbs NOx in an exhaust gas when an exhaust air-fuel ratio is in a lean state and desorbs and reduces the adsorbed NOx when the exhaust air-fuel ratio is in a stoichiometric state or a rich state. (Pt/Pd) which is a ratio of amount of the platinum (Pt) to amount of the palladium (Pd) is 0.7 or more and less than 1.0.

Exhaust gas purifying catalyst

An object of the present invention is to improve hydrocarbon adsorbing property when zeolite is used as an adsorbent for hydrocarbons. The present invention provides an adsorbent for hydrocarbons characterized by comprising A Type of &#x3b2;-zeolite having a SiO/AlOratio (molar ratio) in a range of 10 or more and less than 200 and B Type of &#x3b2;-zeolite having a SiO/AlOratio (molar ratio) in a range from 200 to 1,000, and a catalyst for exhaust gas purification containing said adsorbent for hydrocarbons.

Adsorbent for hydrocarbons, catalyst for exhaust gas purification and method for exhaust gas purification

An exhaust-gas-purifying catalyst is made by depositing on a support iridium serving as a catalyst active substance, sulfur for improving the catalyst activity of iridium and, if necessary, platinum. The sulfur is preferably contained as a sulfate. The exhaust-gas-purifying process of the present invention is a process in which exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is allowed to pass through the exhaust-gas-purifying catalyst with the exhaust-gas temperature being set in the range of 200&deg; C. to 700&deg; C. at the inlet of the exhaust-gas-purifying catalyst. The above-mentioned composition and process provide an activity for purifying exhaust gas, especially for eliminating nitrogen oxides in an oxidizing atmosphere, in a wide temperature range, allow high heat-resistance and durability, and consequently, are superior in practical use.
