An inflator includes: a pressurized gas filled with a pressurized gas and having a first end and a second end; a gas generator being connected to the first end, and including therein an ignition device and a molded article of a gas generating; a diffuser portion connected to the second end, and being provided with a gas discharge port; a communication path provided between the pressurized gas chamber and the gas generator and closed by a rupturable plate; a cap provided to cover the rupturable plate from the pressurized gas chamber side and having a plurality of gas holes formed at a circumference thereof, the minimum diameter (d min) of the gas hole being equal to or smaller than the larger one of the minimum diameter (D min) and the length (L) of the molded article of the gas generating composition.

Inflator

A hybrid inflator in which a weight thereof and the number of manufacturing steps can be reduced is provided. First and second communication holes 125 and 135 by which first and second gas generating chambers 120 and 130 communicates with an inflator housing 102 are formed in a gas generator housing 105. Therefore, no screen is required and thus, the weight and the number of manufacturing steps can be reduced.

Hybrid inflator

A multistage inflating-type hybrid inflator in which a malfunction does not occur is provided. When a first gas generating chamberis first burnt, a combustion gas flowed out of first communication holesadvances in a direction towards an inner wall of an inflator housingbut it does not flow in a direction towards a second gas generating chamber. For this reason, the malfunction of the second gas generating chambercannot occur due to heat energy of the combustion gas.

Multistage inflating-type hybrid inflator

The present invention provides a hybrid inflator capable of adjusting an amount of a pressurized medium and a material of a gas generating agent to meet the requirements. An outer shell of a first gas generating chamberis formed by an inflator housingand a second gas generating chamber housing, and an outer shell of a second gas generating chamberis formed by the second gas generating chamber housing. For this reason, even when the requirement for downsizing and reducing weight is met, an amount of a gas generating agent does not have to be reduced.

Multistage-inflating type hybrid inflator

A hybrid inflator in which a weight thereof and the number of manufacturing steps can be reduced is provided. First and second communication holes and by which first and second gas generating chambers and communicate with an inflator housing are formed in a gas generator housing . Therefore, no screen is required and thus, the weight and the number of manufacturing steps can be reduced.

A gas generator for an airbag is provided which is small and lightweight and enables an efficient use of the filter. This gas generator includes: a first member with one end open; a second member closing the open end of the first member; an ignition unit and a gas generating unit, both installed in a container formed by the first and second members; a filter arranged along an outer circumference of the container to enclose gas passing ports formed in the container; and a strip plate member arranged along an outer circumference of the filter, having a width smaller than the width of the filter and adapted to prevent a radial expansion of the filter, or a mesh member covering the filter.

Gas generator for an air bag

A gas generator for an airbag has a reduced number of components and in which an automatic ignition material can ignite at an appropriate time. This gas generator includes a housing, an ignition unit accommodating chamber in the housing, an ignition unit installed in the ignition unit accommodating chamber, a gas generating material, and a cooling and purifying unit. The ignition unit includes a transfer charge container and an igniter. The transfer charge container has a cup containing a transfer charge and a cover hermetically sealing the cup. The igniter is activated by a signal to ignite the transfer charge, and a generated gas is introduced into an airbag to protect an occupant against an impact. The transfer charge container includes a cup part and a cover part, either the bottom of the cup part or the cover part are outwardly curved to form an outwardly convex surface. The container is resiliently held between a top wall portion of the ignition unit accommodating chamber and the igniter.

Gas producer for air bag

The present invention is a small, light-weight gas generator for a passenger air bag. The gas generator includes a housing having a diffuser shell and a closure shell. The diffuser shell includes a round portion, a center cylindrical portion extending concentrically from inside a peripheral portion of the round portion, and an inner cylindrical portion. The center cylindrical portion is disposed at the center of the round portion for storing therein a squib-enhancer. The inner cylindrical portion is disposed outside the center cylindrical portion to provide a combustion chamber. The closure shell includes an annular portion equipped with a center hole for receiving the center cylindrical portion, and a peripheral wall portion extending from the peripheral portion of the annular portion to the peripheral portion of the round portion of the diffuser shell. This peripheral wall portion defines a coolant-filter chamber and includes a gas discharge port and a flange portion extending in a radial direction. Welding bonds the closure and diffuser shells together at the outer peripheral portion of the center cylindrical portion and the peripheral portion of the center hole; at the tip of the inner cylindrical portion and the region of the annular portion coming into contact with the tip; and at the peripheral portion of the round portion and the tip portion of the peripheral wall portion.

Gas generator formed with electron beam welding

A small, light-weight gas generator is provided for an air bag for protecting a passenger from impact by introducing a generated gas into an air bag. The gas generator includes a housing having a diffuser shell and a closure shell. The diffuser shell includes a round portion, a cylindrical portion extending concentrically from the round portion and an inner cylindrical portion extending about the center cylindrical portion and extending from the round portion. The closure shell includes an annular portion having a center hole for receiving the center cylindrical portion and a peripheral wall portion extending from the peripheral portion of the annular portion. This peripheral wall portion extends to the peripheral portion of the round portion of the diffuser. Electron beam welding may be used to bond the closure and diffuser shells together at the outer peripheral portion of the center cylindrical portion and the center hole; the inner cylindrical portion and the annular portion; and the peripheral portion of the round portion and the inner surface of the peripheral wall.
