Provided herein are processes for producing positive electrode active substance particles for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which is excellent in life characteristics of a battery with respect to a repeated charging and discharging performance thereof, as well as a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. In particular, provided herein are processes for producing a positive electrode active substance for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprising lithium transition metal layered oxide having a composition represented by the formula: Li(NiCoMn)Owherein a is 1.0&#x2264;a&#x2264;1.15; x is 0&#x3c;x&#x3c;1; and y is 0&#x3c;y&#x3c;1, in which the positive electrode active substance is in the form of secondary particles formed by aggregating primary particles thereof, and a coefficient of variation of a compositional ratio: Li/Me wherein Me is a sum of Ni, Co and Mn as measured on a section of the secondary particle is not more than 25%.

Processes for preparing positive electrode active substance for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries

A phosphor which has a main crystal phase having the same crystal structure as that of CaAlSiN, wherein the phosphor satisfies conditions of a span value (d90&#x2212;d10)/d50 of 1.70 or less and a d50 of 10.0 &#x3bc;m or less, as represented with d10, d50, and d90 on a volume frequency measured according to a laser diffraction method; wherein the d10, d50, and d90 on a volume frequency in a particle distribution measured are each a measured by loading 0.5 g of a phosphor into 100 ml of a solution of 0.05% by weight of sodium hexametaphosphate mixed in ion exchange water, and subjecting the resultant to a dispersing treatment for 3 minutes with an ultrasonic homogenizer at an oscillation frequency of 19.5&#xb1;1 kHz, a chip size of 20&#x3c6;, and an amplitude of vibration of 32&#xb1;2 &#x3bc;m, with a chip placed at a central portion.

A &#x3b2;-type sialon phosphor represented by the following expression 1, in which D50 is 10 &#x3bc;m or less, and values of D10, D50, and D90 satisfy a relationship of the following expression 2 with respect to D10, D50, and D90 (each unit is [&#x3bc;m]) on a volume frequency basis as measured according to a laser diffraction/scattering method. An object of the present invention is to provide a positive electrode mixture capable of conducting stable charging and discharging with a less amount of gasses generated which has an operating voltage or an initial crystal phase transition voltage of not less than 4.5 V on the basis of lithium. The present invention relates to a positive electrode mixture comprising carbon black having a bulk density of not more than 0.1 g/cm, a crystallite size of 10 to 40 &#x212b;, an iodine adsorption of 1 to 150 mg/g, a volatile content of not more than 0.1% and a metal impurity content of not more than 20 ppm, and a positive electrode active substance having an operating voltage or an initial crystal phase transition voltage of not less than 4.5 V on the basis of lithium.

The present invention relates to nickel-cobalt-manganese-based compound particles which have a volume-based average secondary particle diameter (D50) of 3.0 to 25.0 &#x3bc;m, wherein the volume-based average secondary particle diameter (D50) and a half value width (W) of the peak in volume-based particle size distribution of secondary particles thereof satisfy the relational formula: W&#x2266;0.4&#xd7;D50, and can be produced by dropping a metal salt-containing solution and an alkali solution to an alkali solution at the same time, followed by subjecting the obtained reaction solution to neutralization and precipitation reaction. The present invention relates to Li&#x2014;Ni-based composite oxide particles comprising Mn, and Co and/or Al, wherein Co and Al are uniformly dispersed within the particles, and Mn is present with a gradient of its concentration in a radial direction of the respective particles such that a concentration of Mn on a surface of the respective particles is higher than that at a central portion thereof.
