There is provided a metallic glass component with its surface layer having both durability of a film and chromatic color properties, and a method for forming the surface layer. Surface active treatment is performed wherein the surface of the metallic glass component is reacted with a mixed aqueous solution of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid to remove an oxide film and to provide an anchor bond shape on the surface of a metallic glass component, and electroplating or electroless plating is then performed, to form a plating film on the surface of the metallic glass component. It is thereby possible to form a surface layer of a metallic glass which has both durability and a chromatic color.

A magnetic recording medium 1 includes a substrate 11; and a metallic glassy layer 12 that is arranged on the substrate 11 and has a plurality of convex portions 12A and concave portions 12B. Metallic glass, magnetic recording medium using the same, and method of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium

A sputtering target for producing a metallic glass membrane characterized in comprising a structure obtained by sintering atomized powder having a composition of a ternary compound system or greater with at least one or more metal elements selected from Pd, Zr, Fe, Co, Cu and Ni as its main component (component of greatest atomic %), and being an average grain size of 50 &#x3bc;m or less. The prepared metallic glass membrane can be used as a substitute for conventional high-cost bulk metallic glass obtained by quenching of molten metal. This sputtering target for producing the metallic glass membrane is also free from problems such as defects in the metallic glass membrane and unevenness of composition, has a uniform structure, can be produced efficiently and at low cost, and does not generate many nodules or particles. Further provided is a method for manufacturing such a sputtering target for forming the metallic glass membrane.

Sputtering target for producing metallic glass membrane and manufacturing method thereof

A sintered sputtering target having a structure where the average crystallize size is 1 nm to 50 nm and preferably comprises an alloy having a three-component system or greater containing, as its primary component, at least one element selected from among Zr, Pd, Cu, Co, Fe, Ti, Mg, Sr, Y, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Ag, Cd, In, Sn, Sb, Te and a rare earth metal. This target is manufactured by sintering atomized powder. Thereby provided is a high density target having an extremely fine and uniform structure manufactured with the sintering method, in place of a conventional bulk metal glass produced by the quenching of a molten metal, which has a coarse crystal structure and requires a high cost for its production.

An internal gear manufacturing method capable of manufacturing time reduction and easy core removal, and a metallic glass internal gear manufactured thereby. A carbon core formed into a shape of an external gear is arranged in a thin, long tubular mold of a length equal thereto with a space extending longitudinally therealong. A molten metal material is pressure-injected under a temperature higher than a melting point thereof into the space between the mold and the core. The molten metal material is resolidified by rapid cooling at or above a critical cooling rate thereof together with the mold and the core. After resolidification of the molten metal material, the core is removed by pulverization or dissolution. Along internal gear formed of the resolidified metal material is cut into a plurality of segments of a prescribed length.

(3).

A metallic glass laminate of the present invention is characterized in that a metallic glass layer of amorphous phase is formed on the substrate surface, and there is no continuous pore (pinhole) through the metallic glass layer. The metallic glass laminate is preferably obtained by solidification and lamination of at least part of the metallic glass powder in the molten state or in the supercooled liquid state on the substrate surface. Because of the dense metallic glass layer of homogenous amorphous phase, the functionalities of metallic glass such as corrosion resistance and wear resistance can be satisfactorily provided. A thick and a large-area metallic glass layer can be formed. The metallic glass layer can also be formed into various shapes within the supercooled liquid temperature range. In addition, a metallic glass bulk can be obtained by removing the substrate. The metallic glass laminate and the metallic glass bulk are utilized for a fuel cell separator, a hydrogen separation membrane, a hydrogen sensor, a solder-corrosion resisting member, etc.

Metallic glass laminates, production methods and applications thereof

An aluminum base alloy is produced by supercooling a molten alloy composed mainly of aluminum. The molten alloy contains an element capable of forming a quasicrystalline phase, an element which aids formation of the quasicrystals, and an element which stabilizes a supercooled state of the molten alloy and delays crystallization of a crystalline phase, and is composed of a mixed composition of a fine amorphous phase and an aluminum crystalline phase or an aluminum supersaturated solid solution phase, or a single phase of only an amorphous phase.

Aluminum base alloy

Provided is a hydrogen separation membrane characterized by comprising a structure obtained by sintering atomized powder having a composition of NiMZr(wherein M is Nb and/or Ta, 25&#x2266;x&#x2266;40, 25&#x2266;y&#x2266;40) and an average grain size of 50 &#x3bc;m or less. The prepared hydrogen separation membrane does not require the use of costly Pd metal, and can be used as a substitute for conventional high-cost bulk metallic glass obtained by quenching of molten metal. This hydrogen separation membrane is free from problems such as defects in the hydrogen separation membrane and unevenness of composition, has a uniform structure, and is capable of separating hydrogen at low cost. Further provided are a sputtering target for forming such as hydrogen separation membrane and its manufacturing method.

An objective of the present invention is to form a hyper-elastic flange integrally within a shield case body around a periphery thereof while decreasing an occupied area for grounding. The flangeis elastically deformed to be grounded, thus a leakage of electromagnetic waves to the outside of the shield caseis prevented. The flangeis made of metallic glass. By forming the flangefrom metallic glass, a displacement due to viscous flowing on the atomic level, which is different from a plastic deformation, can be utilized, and thus a high precision flange can be formed without a spring-back.

Electromagnetic wave shield case and a method for manufacturing electromagnetic wave shield case

To provide a Cu-based amorphous alloy having a glass-forming ability higher than that of a Cu&#x2014;Zr&#x2014;Ti amorphous alloy and a Cu&#x2014;Hf&#x2014;Ti amorphous alloy, as well as excellent workability and excellent mechanical properties without containing large amounts of Ti. A Cu-based amorphous alloy characterized by containing 90 percent by volume or more of amorphous phase having a composition represented by Formula: Cu(Zr,Hf)(Al,Ga)[in Formula, a and b are on an atomic percent basis and satisfy 35 atomic percent&#x2266;a&#x2266;50 atomic percent and 2 atomic percent&#x2266;b&#x2266;10 atomic percent], wherein the temperature interval &#x394;Tx of supercooled liquid region is 45 K or more, the temperature interval being represented by Formula &#x394;Tx=Tx&#x2212;Tg (where Tx represents a crystallization initiation temperature and Tg represents a glass transition temperature.), a rod or a sheet having a diameter or thickness of 1 mm or more and a volume fraction of amorphous phase of 90% or more can be produced by a metal mold casting method, the compressive strength is 1,900 MPa or more, the Young's modulus is 100 GPa or more, and the Vickers hardness is 500 Hv or more.

Cu-base amorphous alloy

Disclosed is a soft magnetic Fe&#x2014;B&#x2014;Si-based metallic glass alloy with high glass forming ability which has a supercooled-liquid temperature interval (&#x394;T) of 40 K or more, a reduced glass-transition temperature (T/T) of 0.56 or more and a saturation magnetization of 1.4 T or more. The metallic glass alloy is represented by the following composition formula: (FeBSi)M, wherein a and b represent an atomic ratio, and satisfy the following relations: 0.1&#x2266;a&#x2266;0.17, 0.06&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.15 and 0.18&#x2266;a+b&#x2266;0.3, M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Zr, Nb, Ta, Hf, Mo, Ti, V, Cr, Pd and W, and &#x3c7; satisfies the following relation: 1 atomic % &#x2266;&#x3c7;&#x2266;10 atomic %. The present invention overcomes restrictions in preparing a metallic glass bar with a thickness of 1 mm or more from conventional Fe&#x2014;B&#x2014;Si-based metallic glasses due to their poor glass forming ability, and provides a high saturation-magnetization Fe&#x2014;B&#x2014;Si-based metallic glass allowing the formation of bulk metallic glass, which serves as a key technology for achieving a broader application fields of metallic glass products.

Soft magnetic metallic glass alloy

Disclosed is a soft magnetic Co-based metallic glass alloy with high glass forming ability, which has a supercooled-liquid temperature interval (&#x394;T) of 40 K or more, a reduced glass-transition temperature (T/T) of 0.59 and a low coercive force of 2.0 A/m or less. The metallic glass alloy is represented by the following composition formula: [CoFeBSi]M, wherein each of a, b and n represents an atomic ratio satisfying the following relations: 0.1&#x2266;a&#x2266;0.17; 0.06&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.15; 0.18&#x2266;a+b&#x2266;0.3; and 0&#x2266;n&#x2266;0.08, M representing one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Zr, Nb, Ta, Hf, Mo, Ti, V, Cr, Pd and W, and &#x3c7; satisfying the following relation: 3 atomic %&#x2266;&#x3c7;&#x2266;10 atomic %. The present invention overcomes restrictions in preparing a metallic glass bar with a thickness of 1 mm or more from conventional Co&#x2014;Fe&#x2014;B&#x2014;Si-based metallic glasses due to their poor glass forming ability, and provides an excellent Co&#x2014;Fe&#x2014;B&#x2014;Si-based metallic glass allowing the formation of bulk metallic glass, which serves as a key technology for achieving a broader application fields of metallic glass products.

Soft magnetic co-based metallic glass alloy

An Fe-based amorphous alloy having a compositional formula in atomic percent represented by Fe.sub.100-a-b-c-d-e-f Al.sub.a Ga.sub.b P.sub.c C.sub.d B.sub.e Si.sub.f, wherein a to f satisfy 4.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.6, 1.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.3, 9.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.12, 5.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.7, 3.ltoreq.e.ltoreq.5 and 0.25.ltoreq.f.ltoreq.4. The Fe-based amorphous alloy is an amorphous magnetic material having an excellent amorphous phase-forming ability, and can easily form an amorphous material having a thickness of 1.5 mm or above by a mold casting method realizing a cooling speed of about 10.sup.3 K/s. Also, because the amorphous alloy has a supercooled liquid region of 50 K or larger, by applying a working method utilizing a super cooled state, amorphous magnetic materials of various form can be prepared.
