A light-shielding packaging for a roll of continuous photosensitive web wound on a core having on its each end a light-shielding flange disc has at its leading end a light-shielding leader sheet. The leader sheet is composed of a longitudinal light-shielding base sheet and two heat-shrinkable light-shielding strips, in which each of the light-shielding strips is tearable predominantly in its longitudinal direction and is fixed onto a surface of each side of the light-shielding base sheet under the condition that the light-shielding strip is aligned in parallel with the side of the longitudinal base sheet to project its portion from the side of the base sheet.

A light-shielding packaging for a roll of continuous photosensitive web wound on a core having on its each end a light-shielding flange disc has at its leading end a heat-shrinkable light-shielding leader sheet having a thickness of 30 to 200 &mgr;m which shows a heat shrinkage ratio at 50&deg; C. of lower than 1% both in the longitudinal and width directions and a heat shrinkage ratio at 100&deg; C. in the range of 5% to 30% in the longitudinal direction and a heat shrinkage ratio at 100&deg; C. of less than the heat shrinkage ratio in the longitudinal direction by 1% or more in the width direction. The leader sheet has a length larger than the length of the outermost convolution of the roll and a width larger than the distance between the outer face of one flange disc and the outer face of another flange disc, and each side portion of the leader sheet is light-tightly attached by heat shrinkage to the outer face of the flange disc at least at a portion adjacent to the periphery of the flange disc.

An elongate light-shield film is withdrawn for a length corresponding to the width of a photosensitive film by a light-shield film supply mechanism, cut off into a light-shield film by a first cutting mechanism, and fed to an overlapping position by a feeding and positioning mechanism. In the overlapping position, a transverse end of the light-shield film is caused to overlap a longitudinal end of the photosensitive film, and the overlapping ends are cut off by a second cutting mechanism. Abutting ends of the light-shield film and the photosensitive film are then joined to each other by a tape, and the light-shield film and the photosensitive film which are thus joined are around on a spool. Debris produced when the overlapping ends are cut off is automatically discharged.

A photosensitive material roll is mounted on a take-up shaft, and a light-shielding film having a width larger than the width of the photosensitive material roll is bonded to the leading end portion of the photosensitive material roll. A pair of slitters are positioned in respective slitting start positions on opposite sides of the leading end portion of the photosensitive material roll and spaced from each other by a distance substantially equal to the width of the photosensitive material roll. The light-shielding film is slit into a predetermined width larger than the width of the photosensitive material roll by moving the slitters away from each other in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the take-up shaft while rotating the take-up shaft to take up the light-shielding film around the photosensitive material roll.

The double plate is formed from plastic by extrusion, and first and second plate elements confronted with each other. Partition portions interconnect the first and second plate elements, and extend in the direction of the extrusion, to define plural hollow chambers between the first and second plate elements. The double plate is bent along bend lines substantially at a right angle. At least one of the bend lines is at least partially curved.
