A video signal processing apparatus includes: an enhancement gain generating section obtaining an enhancement gain for each pixel based on an luminance signal forming part of an input video signal and a predetermined enhancement gain; and an enhancing section performing a process of enhancing the luminance signal forming part of the input video signal based on the enhancement gain. The enhancement gain generating section includes a mean deviation calculating portion obtaining a mean deviation of luminance values of pixels included in a predetermined region centered at a pixel of interest that is the pixel for which the enhancement gain is to be obtained, a weighting coefficient generating portion generating a weighting coefficient for the pixel of interest according to the value of the mean deviation, and a multiplication portion multiplying the predetermined enhancement gain by the weighting coefficient to obtain the enhancement gain for the pixel of interest.

A video signal processor includes a sharpening circuit, a non-correlation detecting circuit, and, optionally, a noise level detecting circuit. The sharpening circuit is capable of receiving an input luminance signal. The sharpening circuit has a transversal filter. The transversal filter is operable to filter the input luminance signal to produce an intermediate signal and to produce a filtered luminance signal with a time lag. The sharpening circuit is operable to multiply the filtered luminance signal by a predetermined factor, to adjust the time lag to produce a resultant luminance signal, and to add the resultant luminance signal to the intermediate signal. The non-correlation detecting circuit detects noise or fluctuation in the intermediate signal. The non-correlation detecting circuit is operable to set the predetermined factor to a selected value based upon the presence of at least one of the noise or the fluctuation in the intermediate signal, according to a threshold voltage. The noise level detecting circuit detects a noise level. The threshold voltage is varied depending upon the noise level. When the intermediate signal is detected to contain the noise but not the fluctuation, the sharpening circuit cancels at least a portion of the noise. Thus, the video signal processor discriminates a low-level signal from a large-amplitude noise, and reduces noise contained in a video signal.

Signal processor and signal processing method

In an image output apparatus such as a television receiver or the like, a speed modulating circuit for modulating a scanning speed of an electron beam and emphasizing an outline of an image is provided. Reference numeral denotes a video amplifying unit for amplifying a video signal which is inputted by a baseband and driving a cathode ray tube; a differentiating circuit for detecting a change point of the video signal. A detected signal is adjusted to a predetermined level by a next waveform shaping circuit and further supplied through a variable gain amplifier , a signal synchronizing circuit , and an output amplifier to a scanning speed modulating coil provided in a neck portion of the CRT. Reference numeral denotes a waveform generating circuit for generating a parabolic signal to varying a modulation degree when the speed modulation is performed synchronously with a horizontal period; a sampling circuit for detecting, particularly, an average level of a luminance signal of peripheral portions of an image; and a maximum value detecting circuit for comparing a level of the signal generated from the waveform generating circuit with a level of a signal outputted from the sampling circuit and outputting the signal of the higher level. A gain of the variable gain amplifier is controlled by an output of the maximum value detecting circuit , thereby controlling a level of the speed modulation signal.

Scanning speed modulating circuit for picture display

In a dual direction horizontal bi-directional scan circuit, deterioration of the picture quality is prevented, while linearity is improved without supplying wasteful deflecting current, and pin distortion is corrected. The deflecting current in the going scan and in the returning scan are supplied to each deflecting coil by first and second resonance circuits, and capacitors substantially the same in capacitance are provided in the first and second resonance circuits to bias the deflecting voltage so that the terminal voltage and the power source voltage of the capacitors are synchronized to the vertical synchronizing signals to produce a parabolic modulation.

Bi-directional scan circuit

At a horizontal deflecting circuit of bi-directional deflection, timings of deflection of forward scan path and backward scan path are respectively controlled. The timing of deflection of forward path or backward path is controlled at the first timing control circuit 22 so that it is synchronized with the horizontal synchronizing signal HD and timing of deflection of backward path or forward path is controlled at the second timing control circuit 24 so that deflection cycles of forward path and backward path are equalized. Further, timings of deflection of forward scan path and backward scan path are controlled respectively at first and second phase comparison circuits 22 and 24 so that the relation in phase between the image signal and the deflection takes a constant value on the basis of the horizontal synchronizing signal, to previously prevent occurrence of steady phase error.

A coil (11) is connected in series to a primary winding (1a) of a flyback transformer (1). A series circuit of a capacitor (15) and a switching circuit (12) is connected in parallel to the coil (11). By turning on and off the switching circuit (12), the connection of the capacitor (15) to the coil (11) is switched, to thereby connect or disconnect the coil (11) in an AC fashion. Therefore, it is possible to realize a high voltage regulating circuit which can be made inexpensive.
