The head end surface of an optical fiber () and the head end surface of an optical fiber () are butted to each other in an alignment member () of an adapter (). In the butting, because one of the members clasping the optical fiber () is a plate () that is short, the optical fiber () is bent and buckled between the left end of the short plate and the right end of the alignment member. Members clasping the optical fiber () are a long plate () and a V-grooved base plate (), and the optical fiber () is therefore horizontally fixed between each of right ends of the long plate and of the V-grooved base plate () and the left end of the alignment member. This results that the head end surface of the optical fiber () and the head end surface of the optical fiber () are in tight contact with each other, achieving excellent optical transmission between both optical fibers.

Optical connector

A connector capable of setting a direction of running a cable connected thereto, as desired. An angle end bell has eight positioning protrusions formed on a foremost end of a surrounding portion thereof at circumferentially equally-spaced intervals. Eight positioning recesses for engagement with the positioning protrusions are formed in a rear end of a barrel. The barrel has three erroneous fitting-preventing key grooves formed in an outer peripheral surface thereof at circumferentially equally-spaced intervals.

Connector and device equipped with the same

In an optical connection component for use in connecting a connection object having a key formed on one side surface thereof, a housing for fitting over the connection object is formed around an optical axis. A shutter member is coupled to the housing and includes a light shielding portion which is elastically deformable and extends across the optical axis. The housing includes a key groove portion for receiving the key and an escape groove portion adapted to receive the light shielding potion in an elastically deformed state.

An optical connector apparatus includes a first connector having a first connecting portion adapted to be connected to and disconnected from a first connecting object in a first direction, a second connector which has a second connecting portion adapted to be connected to a second connection object and which is coupled to the first connector, and an optical fiber connected between the first and the second connectors. The first connector includes a first ferrule having an end portion formed at a position corresponding to the first connecting portion and having a first outer diameter. The second connector includes a second ferrule having an end portion formed at a position corresponding to the second connecting portion and having a second outer diameter greater than the first outer diameter. The optical fiber is coupled to the first and the second ferrules.

Optical connector apparatus suitable for interconnection between different-diameter ferrules

An optical connector comprises a clamp member holding an optical fiber, a first housing to which the clamp member is fixed, and a second housing fitted to the first housing. The first housing has an aligning portion for aligning and positioning the optical fiber, and a clamp holding portion holding the clamp member. The optical fiber has an end portion protruding forward from the aligning portion in a cantilevered state.

Optical connector for connecting optical fibers to one another

There is provided an optical connector device which prevents leakage of light until right before connectors are connected to each other and is small-sized by a reduction in space for housing shutters. The optical connector device is an optical connector device comprising a first optical connector and a second optical connector. When shutters for shutting out light from the optical connectors are collided with each other, the shutters move to positions where they do not shut out the light. Therefore, the first optical connector and the second optical connector are connected to each other. After moving, the shutter of the first optical connector and the shutter of the second optical connector are inserted into the second optical connector while remaining contacting each other.

Optical connector having shielding mechanism

For connecting an optical fiber having a fiber axis and an axial end portion provided with a chamfered surface having a predetermined angle with respect to the fiber axis, the optical connector includes an aligning member and a holding plate. The aligning member has a principal surface and a side surface adjacent to the principal surface. The aligning member has a fiber-receiving groove for receiving the axial end portion of the optical fiber. The fiber-receiving groove extends along the principal surface in a predetermined direction and has end portions each opening on the side surface. The holding plate is faced to the principal surface and covers the fiber-receiving groove. The holding plate has a first slant surface beside one of end portions of the fiber-receiving groove. The first slant surface has an angle with respect to the principal surface. The first angle is determined smaller than the predetermined angle.

Optical connector readily capable of connecting an optical fiber without damaging the optical fiber

In a fixing apparatus for fixing an optical connector to an optical cable having an optical fiber and wire members arranged around the optical fiber, the fixing apparatus includes first, second, and third holding members. The first holding member is adapted to be inserted between the wire member and the optical fiber. The second holding member is adapted to be disposed outside the wire members, the second holding member cooperating with the first holding member to tightly hold the wire members therebetween. The third holding member surrounding the second holding member and having an axial end portion adapted to be engaged with the second holding member in a rotation direction with respect to the optical cable. In addition, the third holding member has another axial end portion adapted to be connected to the optical connector.

Apparatus for tightly fixing an optical connector to an optical cable

In an optical connector including an optical connector plug holding a first optical fiber and an optical connector plug holding a second optical fiber, the optical connector plugs cooperates with each other to obtain a connected state in which exposed longitudinal ends of the first and the second optical fibers are brought into contact with each other. The first optical fiber includes a long fiber portion and a short fiber portion higher in breakage resistance than the long fiber portion. One of the longitudinal ends of the short fiber is fused to one of longitudinal ends of the long fiber portion. Another of the longitudinal ends of the short fiber portion is exposed to serve as one of the exposed longitudinal ends.

Optical connector using an optical fiber having a special fiber portion as a part thereof

In a fixing tool for fixing a fiber holding member to an optical fiber, a tool body receives the optical fiber and the fiber holding member. In this event, the fiber holding member is disposed on a first specific part of the optical fiber. A positioning device fixes a second specific part of the optical fiber to the tool body in the state where the optical fiber and the fiber holding member are received in the tool body. The second specific part is a portion between the first specific part and a longitudinal end face of the optical fiber.

Fixing tool for fixing a fiber holding member to an optical fiber

In a receptacle-type optical connector to be connected to a plug-type optical connector connected to an optical fiber terminated by the use of a ferrule, use is made of a base shell, a front shell, and an intermediate shell which is interposed between the base shell and the front shell. The base shell has a core coupling portion for coupling a core of the optical fiber. The front shell has an opening which is shaped in conformity with a plug shape of the plug-type optical connector. The intermediate shell is partly fitted to the base shell. The intermediate shell has a cylindrical protrusion which is shaped in conformity with the ferrule and which is inserted into the opening.

In an optical connector adapter for use in connecting first and second optical connectors to each other, the optical connector adapter includes a shell member which has a wall portion defining an opening and which receives the first optical connector. The opening is received with an insert member adapted to guide the second optical connector. The insert member includes a flange portion extending outward in a radial direction. The flange portion has an extending end face faced to the wall portion, an engaging portion formed on the extending end face, and a slit allowing the engaging portion to be movable away from the wall portion. The wall portion has an engaged portion to be engaged with the engaging portion of the flange portion.

Optical connector adapter having an engaging portion which is rendered movable by the use of a slit

An adapter for coupling first and second optical fiber connectors having ferrules, respectively, comprises first and second members and a sleeve. The first and the second members can be detachably coupled to each other. The second member holds the sleeve. To prevent one end of the sleeve from being brought into undesirable contact with end surface of the ferrule of the first optical fiber connector when the first member connected with the first optical fiber connector is coupled with the second member, the first member is formed with first and second positioning holes, while the second member is provided with first and second positioning sticks. The first and the second positioning sticks project beyond the end of the sleeve. The first and the second positioning sticks are inserted into the first and the second positioning holes, respectively, while the ferrule of the first optical fiber connector is suitably inserted into the sleeve when the first and the second members are coupled together.
