An inverter is disposed adjacent to a motor. The inverter includes a plurality of power modules, a smoothing capacitor, and busbars connecting the power modules and the smoothing capacitor. The plurality of power modules are disposed to be arranged along the periphery of the smoothing capacitor. The smoothing capacitor is disposed at a central portion of the inverter and also disposed in the inner portion of the inverter such that the smoothing capacitor and each of the power modules are arranged on the same plane.

Electric drive unit having arrangement constituting inverter to reduce busbar inductance and installation space

An inverter is disposed adjacent to one end of a motor in a rotational axis direction. The inverter includes a plurality of power modules each including a switching element, a smoothing capacitor, busbars that connect the power modules to the smoothing capacitor, and a thin case that accommodates these components. The switching element is constituted by a silicon carbide metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (SiC MOSFET). The smoothing capacitor and each of the power modules are disposed in an inner portion of the thin case and arranged on the same plane orthogonal to the rotational axis direction.

Electric drive unit

In a vehicle drive unit, a motor and an inverter are disposed adjacent in an axial direction of the motor. A smoothing capacitor and each power module are connected by a busbar. Each power module has a flat shape having a wide width, and has a first cooling surface facing the motor. The first cooling surface of each power module is placed on a placement surface orthogonal to the axial direction. The plate-shaped busbar has a second cooling surface facing the motor. The busbar is connected to the smoothing capacitor and each power module, and is formed with a wide width so as to extend along a direction in which each power module is disposed side by side. The second cooling surface is placed on the placement surface. A cooling portion facing the first and second cooling surfaces is provided closer to the motor than the placement surface.

Vehicle drive unit

Provided is an engine cooling apparatus capable of preventing deterioration in reliability of a cylinder head of an engine during cold engine operation. The engine cooling apparatus comprises an engine cooling water path, a heater core cooling path, and a radiator cooling water path, and further comprises a switching valve for switching among these cooling water paths. The switching valve is operable, when the temperature of an area around an exhaust valve is raised to a value greater than, e.g., 150&#xb0; C., even in a situation where the temperature of cooling water for cooling the engine is equal to or less than, e.g., 50&#xb0; C., to switch from the in-engine cooling water path to the heater core cooling water path.

Engine cooling apparatus

A valve system includes: a cam shaft including a shaft section and a plurality of cam element sections; and a plurality of operation members that moves the cam element sections in an axial direction. The plurality of operation members include a common operation member that is provided in common between end face cams opposed to each other of the cam element sections of two cylinders disposed adjacent to each other and continuous in ignition order and that engages with the respective end face cams when both the cam element sections are close to each other, and individual operation members that are individually provided for end face cams opposed to each other of the cam element sections of two cylinders disposed adjacent to each other and discontinuous in ignition order and end face cams located at opposite ends of a cylinder row and that engage with the respective end face cams.

Valve system for a multi-cylinder engine

A valve operating device for an engine is provided. The device includes at least two cam elements per one shaft. End face cams are formed in opposing end faces of two adjacent cam elements, and the end face cams respectively have protruding portions being formed offset in phase so that the protruding portions overlap in the axial directions when the two cam elements are close to each other. A control member is provided, the control member is projected to an actuated position at which the control member is projected to engage with the end face cams so as to separate the adjacent cam elements from each other when the cam elements are close to each other, and the control member is retreated to a non-actuated position at which the control member is retreated from the actuated position.

Valve operating device of engine

A valve operating device for an engine is provided. The device includes a cam element formed with an end face cam in one end thereof, and a control member driven by an actuator to project to an actuated position at which the control member is projected to engage with the end face cam so as to move the cam element in one of the axial directions, and retreat to a non-actuated position at which the control member is retreated from the actuated position. The cam element has a slope inclining in a circumferential direction of the cam element and for, when the control member is at the actuated position, sliding in contact with a contact part provided at the control member so as to forcibly move the control member back to the non-actuated position after the movement of the cam element via the end face cam is finished.

Disclosed is an assembling method for a timing system of an engine to wind a timing chain () around a sprocket () attached to a crankshaft () and a sprocket () attached to a camshaft (). The assembling method comprises the steps of: winding the timing chain () around the respective sprockets () while aligning a reference mark provided on a respective one of the sprockets (), with a corresponding one of alignment marks provided on the timing chain () in associated relation with respective ones of the reference marks; preliminarily assembling, to an engine body (), a chain guide () adapted to be brought into contact with a tight side () of the timing chain (); positioning the crankshaft () and the camshaft () at corresponding reference phase positions; and finally assembling the preliminarily-assembled chain guide () to the engine body (), while bringing the chain guide () into contact with the tight side () of the timing chain () with a given pushing force.

Assembling method for timing system of engine

There are provided first and second extending oil passages supplying operational oil to intake-side and exhaust-side lash adjustors, a first connection oil passage interconnecting one end portions of the oil passages, and an oil-pressure control valve selecting a first state in which the first extending oil passage does not connect to a drain oil passage or a second state in which the first extending oil passage connects to the drain oil passage. An orifice is provided in an oil passage which is located on the side of the first connection oil passage relative to a supply portion of the operational oil supplied to the lash adjustor and located on the side of the first connection oil passage relative to another supply portion of the operational oil supplied to the lash adjustor.

Oil supply device of engine

A first balancer shaft includes a shaft extension portion extending forward, to which a driven sprocket is attached. A case member includes a first bearing portion supporting the balancer shaft near its weight portions and rotational gear and a second bearing portion supporting the same near its driven sprocket. The case member includes an upper case coupled to a cylinder block and a lower case facing to the upper case, and there is provided a case extension portion extending forward at the upper case. The first bearing portion is configured of a hole formed by half-split portions of the both cases and the second bearing portion is configured of a hole formed integrally at the case extension portion.
