Provided is a lithium-manganese-type solid solution positive electrode material capable of effectively suppressing gas generation in an initial cycle. Proposed is a lithium-manganese-type solid solution positive electrode material that includes a monoclinic structure of C2/m in a hexagonal structure of a space group R-3m. The lithium-manganese-type solid solution positive electrode material contains a solid solution expressed by a composition formula: xLiMnO+(1&#x2212;x)LiMnCoNiO(in the formula, 0.2&#x2266;&#x3b1;&#x2266;0.6, 0&#x2266;&#x3b2;&#x2266;0.4, and 0.2&#x2266;&#x3b3;&#x2266;0.6). In the composition formula, x is equal to or more than 0.36 and less than 0.50.

Lithium&#x2014;manganese-type solid solution positive electrode material

A tin oxide particle having at least two diffraction peaks at 2&#x3b8; (deg) of 9&#xb1;1&#xb0; and 28&#xb1;1&#xb0; in XRD measurement by Cu/K&#x3b1; radiation. The tin oxide particle preferably shows diffraction peaks at 2&#x3b8; (deg) of 19&#xb1;1&#xb0;, 48&#xb1;1&#xb0;, and 59&#xb1;1&#xb0;. The tin oxide particle preferably has electroconductivity. The tin oxide particle is preferably produced by mixing an aqueous solution containing tin (II) and a hydroxyl-containing organic compound in a heated condition with an alkali.

A negative electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell includes a current collector an, formed on a surface or both surfaces thereof, an active material structure containing an electroconductive material with a low capability of forming a compound with lithium, and the active material structure includes 5% to 80% by weight of active material particles containing a material having a high capability for forming a compound with lithium. The active material structure can include an active material layer containing the active material particles and a surface-covering layer on the active material layer.
