In a multi-storage node system including a plurality of storage nodes, a plurality of storage nodes include a plurality of drives that store data and a control unit that controls writing of data to the drives. The control unit divides storage areas of the plurality of drives into a plurality of physical chunks, allocates the divided physical chunks to logical chunks, and stores data. A plurality of storage nodes are divided into fault sets affected by a single failure and manage the multi-storage node system. The control unit of one primary node that manages the multi-storage node system among a plurality of storage nodes includes a database for managing allocation of the physical chunks of a plurality of storage nodes to the logical chunks for each drive, each storage node, or for each fault set.

A communication apparatus includes a signal detector that detects incoming (i.e., receives) information from a signal received wirelessly. The signal detector includes a wave detector, an equalizer, and a detector. The wave detector accepts an incoming signal wherein information is modulated onto a carrier signal, analyzes the envelope variation of the incoming signal, and generates a detection signal containing the incoming information. The equalizer corrects the detection signal and outputs a corrected detection signal. The detector then detects the incoming information from the corrected detection signal.

A magnetic head accesses sectors of one track in the order starting with a sector where the magnetic head is put into an on-track state. A seek start timing is reliably determined by accessing on a track by track basis with an uncertain process of a read-ahead operation eliminated. A search time is eliminated by accessing any sector within one track. As a result, the number of seeks is minimized and access time is reduced. A sector format is used to perform an access operation on a track by track basis. In this arrangement, each of seek time and search time is reduced during a random access time and a data transmission speed of a disk drive is assured.
