Sheet definition data stored in a sheet definition data managing apparatus is supplied when necessary to a sheet recognizing apparatus to reduce a configuration cost of a sheet definition database. A sheet recognizing system has: a sheet definition managing apparatus including a sheet definition data generating apparatus for generating sheet definition data representative of a relation between a data writing field of a sheet and the written data and a charge managing apparatus for claiming a charge in accordance with a use degree of the sheet definition data by a sheet recognizing and processing apparatus; a communication network for transmitting the sheet definition data managed by the sheet definition data managing apparatus to the sheet recognizing and processing apparatus; and a sheet recognizing apparatus for recognizing the type of the sheet by referring to the sheet definition data acquired via the network.

A simple non-contact image reader of high degree of freedom comprising a reading unit for reading images, a reading condition changing unit for changing the reading conditions of the reading unit, a storage unit for storing two read images which are read under two different reading conditions changed, and an image correction unit for composing two read images stored and developing them on a plane, wherein characters written on the surface of a folded form or a thick book can be read in a good operability state and on a high image quality basis by reading images in non-contact.

An apparatus for sorting and rearranging mails in the sequence sorting is disclosed, in which a multiplicity of mails are loaded in a sorter controlled by a computer to cause the sorter to perform a plurality of sorting passes. A delivery information list has recorded therein the delivery information including the sequence sorting and addresses. A serial number list has stored therein two-digit serial numbers including first-order digit of serial numbers for the first sorting pass and second-order digits of the serial numbers for the second sorting pass set in the sequence sorting corresponding to the delivery information list. A recognition unit recognizes the address of each of the mails loaded in the sorter and sorted in the order of the first-order digit of the serial number. A number-of-mails matrix table records the number of mails by the address recognized in the recognition unit in the first sorting pass. Before the sorting operation by the second-order digit, the second-order digit of the serial number is reassigned based on the number-of-mails matrix table to prevent the overflow at any bins or stackers during the sorting operation by the second-order digit. Then, the mails sorted by the first-order digit are loaded in the sorter in the order of the particular serial number to perform the sorting operation in accordance with the reassigned second-order digit of the serial number.

A detachable built-in printer for printing print data supplied from a computer has at least an interface controller for interfacing with the computer, a print pattern generator, a printing unit, and a printer controller for controlling the whole operation of the printer, respectively assembled on a PC card in conformity with PCMCIA/JEIDA. A computer system with a detachable built-in printer is configured by a computer with a PC card slot and the detachable built-in printer inserted into the PC card slot. It is therefore possible to realize a printer capable of being detachably connected to and built in a computer, and a computer system with such a built-in and removable printer.

A data collection system performs data transmission from a portable information collection-transmission unit 1 to a central data reception unit 7 over a telephone line 6. The information collection-transmission unit 1 has a terminal 2 which temporarily stores data and a unidirectional acoustic coupler 3 which converts the data held in said terminal 2 into binary codes of frequencies used for the transmission on the telephone line, and it sends the data over the telephone line 6. The data reception unit 7 has a modem 8 which converts the data signal on the telephone line into a usable digital data signal and a work station 9 which stores the output of the modem, and it is further provided with a voice synthesizer 10 which outputs a prescribed low-frequency audible signal to the telephone line 6 in response to the instruction from the work station 9. After a call from the data collection-transmission unit 1 has been established, the voice synthesizer responds to the instruction from the work station 9 and issues a low-frequency audible signal for the acknowledgement of call establishment to the data collection-transmission unit 1 so that data transmission is commenced.

Computer-based application systems encounter a case in which data must not exist in a plurality of storage devices. This problem emerges typically in translocating data. The invention disclosed here is intended to erase data in its original location promptly after it has been translocated. The invention comprises a memory card containing a processor and a storage device wherein the memory card is connected to an external processing apparatus. In response to a command issued by the processing apparatus, data is erased from the memory card just after it is copied to the processing apparatus. Thereafter, the data stored in the processing apparatus may be transferred to a second memory card.

The content of a banking transaction inputted through a terminal of specifying the transaction is executed if the transaction has sufficient related financial evidence (for example balance). In turn, in the case that there is no financial evidence or insufficient financial evidence, (for example, where the cash is selected as a transaction financial source and the cash is not deposited yet or a balance of the deposit selected as a financial source is lacking) an execution of the transaction is temporarily halted and the content of the halted transaction is stored in a file of halted transactions. Data relating to a transaction financial source is stored in a file of halted transactions; the information is checked when the balance of the account is renewed by a deposit or transfer, that is when it changes, and with respect to such checking execution of the halted transaction is judged as to whether it can now be carried out. Thereby, when the financial resources relating to a halted execution are changed and judged to now be sufficient, the halted transaction is automatically executed. In view of this fact, it is then possible to specify the transaction without having any financial evidence.
