A method of preparing a gel from carboxymethyl cellulose alkali metal salt, which is an anionic cellulose derivative, by using acid or acid solution. To increase the strength and the elasticity of a gel, a water-insoluble metal compound or organic reinforcement is added when mixing. The obtained gel is one of environmentally friendly type gels because the raw material is derived from plant.

Preparation of gels derived from carboxymethyl cellulose alkali metal salt

Gel for radiation dosimeter including a gel part (A) and a gel part (B) that become cloudy when exposed to a fixed dose or more, wherein said gel part (A) exposed to more than a specified dose above the fixed dose maintains a cloudy state regardless of the decrease in external temperature; and said gel part (B) exposed to less than the specified dose above the fixed dose changes gradually from a cloudy state into a transparent state according to the decrease in external temperature.

Gel for radiation dosimeter and radiation dosimeter which uses the same

A gel manufactured by irradiating ionizing radiation in the range of 5-1000 kGy to an obtained paste compound of a density of 10% by weight or more after adding water to carboxymethyl carrageenan and wherein each gram of dry gel obtained is capable of absorbing 20 grams or more of water. The ionizing radiation may be gamma rays, electron beams or X-rays.

Method of manufacturing gel using polysaccharides as raw materials

After adding water to the carboxymethyl carrageenan which is raw material and mixing them well, the ionizing radiation of more than fixed dose is irradiated to the obtained paste sample of fixed concentration. As a result, an excellent hydrogel in heat resistance which does not dissolve at 50&#xb0; C. or more can be obtained. The manufactured gel can be used for many kinds of products. Because this gel has a biodegradation characteristic, it is possible to dispose by composting.

[Problems to be Solved] To provide highly hydrous contact lenses having a cellulose derivative as an essential component. [Means to Solve the Problems] The highly hydrous contact lens formed by exposing a pasty mixture containing a cellulose derivative, a polymerizable compound couplable to the foregoing cellulose derivative, and water to radiation.
