Disclosed herein a light projection device and a head lamp for vehicle capable of highly increasing and decreasing the illuminance of a plurality of specific regions in a light distribution designed in advance with high degree of freedom. The light projection device includes: a first optical system that forms a second light radiation region; a dynamic light deflection unit configured to deflect a light beam involved in forming the second light radiation region; a second optical system configured to project the deflected light beam to form a third light radiation region; and a deflection pattern generation unit configured to deflect and output each ray of the light beam such that a direction of deflection to be imparted is dependent on a position at which each ray is incident on the light incident portion.

Light projection device and head lamp for vehicle

In a light source device, in each division of an image frame, two or more of the color lights X, Y and Z (e.g., red, green and blue) can be projected simultaneously. Each of the color lights X, Y and Z is divided into two in terms of time so that synthesized light of one group of division color lights enters a first spatial modulation element. Synthesized light of another group of division color lights enters a second spatial modulation element, whereby gradation of each color light in each of the first and second spatial modulation elements is controlled.

Light source device

In a light source device, that obtains high light usage efficiency by projecting simultaneously two or more of three primary color lights X, Y and Z. Moreover, each color light X, Y and Z is divided into two in terms of time so that p-wave and s-wave linear polarization lights are formed, such that the synthesized light of the p-wave linear polarization lights enters a first spatial modulation element and the synthesized light of the s-wave linear polarization lights enters a second spatial modulation element to permit gradation control of each color light.

A discharge lamp lighting apparatus for lighting a discharge lamp, comprises an inverter which reverses a polarity of an output voltage and applies alternating voltage to the discharge lamp, and an inverter control circuit which generates an inverter control signal defining a polarity reversal operation of the inverter, based on a polarity reversal timing signal, wherein when the number of polarity reversals in one cycle of the polarity reversal timing signal is even, the inverter control circuit intermittently performs a first operation in which successive pulse-like part of the polarity reversal operation based on the polarity reversal timing signal is disregarded by odd number of times.

Discharge lamp lighting apparatus and projector

A light source device for a video monitor including a concave reflector with a middle opening and an optical axis, said optical axis being positioned tilted obliquely and a discharge lamp including an emission part with a cathode and an anode located opposite to one another and being supported by hermetically sealed portions, one of the hermetically sealed portions being mounted in the middle opening of the concave reflector in a manner that a lengthwise axis of the discharge lamp substantially aligns with the optical axis of the concave reflector, where the anode of the discharge lamp is positioned closer to the rear reflector than the cathode of the discharge lamp, and a tip of the anode is positioned underneath an obliquely tilted plane that includes the lengthwise axis of the discharge lamp.

A super-high pressure mercury lamp with an internal pressure during operation of one hundred and some dozen atm, which has a new arrangement in which in the hermetically sealed portions neither damage the lamp nor shortening its operating service life is achieved, in a high pressure mercury lamp in which a silica glass discharge vessel contains a pair of spaced apart, opposed electrodes and which is filled with a rare gas and with mercury in an amount of greater than or equal to 0.16 mg/mm , and in which the wall load is greater than or equal to 0.8 W/mm , is achieved in that a side tube part formed on each end of this discharge vessel is provided with a sealing body that is made of a functional gradient material which is formed essentially of a dielectric material and an electrically conductive material with a ratio to one another which changes in the lengthwise direction of the sealing body, between a dielectric end area and an electrically conductive end area, the dielectric end area being connected to the side tube and the electrically conductive end area being connected to an outer electric lead.

High pressure mercury lamp provided with a sealing body made of a functional gradient material

A high pressure mercury lamp in which formation and spreading of milky opacification in the fused silica glass forming the discharge vessel can be advantageously prevented, and thus a rapid decrease of screen illuminance prevented, when it is used as the light source of a liquid crystal projector and the like by, in a high pressure mercury lamp in which a discharge vessel of fused silica glass contains a pair of opposed tungsten electrodes, mercury in an amount that is at least equal to 0.16 mg/mm,, rare gas, and at least one halogen, and in which the wall load is at least equal to 0.8 W/mm,, the amount of mercury added being fixed in a range from 2&times;10,to 7&times;10,&mgr;mole/mm,, and/or the at least one halogen being in the form of a carbonless halogen compound, and/or the average OH radical concentration in an area of a wall of the discharge vessel at a depth of 0.2 mm from an inner surface of the wall of the discharge vessel being at most 20 ppm.

High pressure lamp with specific amount of mercury, halogen and wall loading

A high pressure mercury lamp with an extremely high mercury vapor pressure and extremely high tube wall load in which the arc during operation is advantageously stabilized is achieved in a high pressure mercury lamp having a discharge vessel of fused silica glass which contains a pair of opposed tungsten electrodes, mercury in an amount at least equal to 0.16 mg/mm.sup.3 and a rare gas, and in which the discharge tube has a tube wall load at least equal to 0.8 W/mm.sup.2, by at least one metal halide with a metal having an ionization potential that is at most 0.87 times as high as the mercury ionization potential being added to the discharge tube in a range of from 2.times.10.sup.-4 to 7.times.10.sup.-2 .mu.mole/mm.sup.3.

High pressure mercury lamp

A metal halide lamp with a distance of less than 3.0 mm between the electrodes, in which in the hermetically sealed portion no cracks occur, which can be produced without difficulty, and which enables advantageous operation is achieved with a halide lamp in which an arc tube made of quartz glass contains a cathode and an anode spaced from each other at a distance of less than or equal to 2.9 mm together with mercury and metal halides, and which is operated with a nominal wattage range of from 100 to 400 W using direct current, by causing the ratio D/H to be greater than or equal to 1.9 when D is the maximum inside diameter in millimeters in a direction which orthogonally intersects the axial direction of the electrodes in the discharge space and H is the length of the cathode projecting within the discharge space, also in millimeters.

Metal halide lamp

A short arc lamp which has a lamp body in which a concave space is formed, a base plate which is located in a rear part of this body, a transparent part which is located in a front opening of the lamp body, with a frame part in its vicinity, and which hermetically encloses the concave space, and a pair of electrodes forming an arc gap in the concave space. The frame part is connected to a circular conductive ring which is provided with the roughly square cross section and is connected to the lamp body. At least a front side of the circular conductive ring is exposed to the ambient environment. A gap is formed between the frame part and the circular conductive ring. The frame part extends more to the front than the circular conductive ring, and on the exposed surface of the circular conductive ring and on a side of the projecting part of the frame part, step-like projections are formed.

Short arc lamp having a thermally conductive ring

A short arc lamp in which welding of a cathode to a conductive support component yields an advantageous connection of the cathode to the conductive support component in which the thermal influences are reduced, and in which the cathode tip does not move. The short arc lamp has a body within which a concave discharge space is formed, an anode and a cathode are located in the concave discharge space, a conductive support component for supporting the cathode is connected to a feeding ring which is located in the vicinity of an open end of the reflection surface, a first metal component which is formed on one end of the body, and a second metal component which is formed on the other end of the body. In a preferred embodiment, only a single conductive support component is welded to the cathode.

Short arc lamp with one-piece cathode support component

A method for producing a fused silica envelope for use in a discharge lamp in which the inner surface of a fused silica tube is coated with a formulation containing titanium alcoholate and the coating treated by the steps including baking at a temperature of at least 1720.degree. C. to cause TiO.sub.2 to diffuse into the tube. The method results in a Ti concentration in a range of 1 .mu.m-10 .mu.m from the inner surface of the wall of the envelope is 0.5%-7% in terms of TiO.sub.2 and the product of the overall average Ti concentration and the thickness of the wall of the envelope ranges from 3.7% .mu.m to 42% .mu.m. During the baking step, the tube is shaped to include a bulb-like portion by inflating the silica tube.
