A porous resin film which comprises 30 to 90 wt % of a thermoplastic resin containing a hydrophilic thermoplastic resin component; and 70 to 10 wt % of an inorganic or organic fine powder was disclosed. The porous resin film of the present invention is valuable as an ink-jet recording medium since the film shows excellent ink absorbing and drying properties even when a large amount of ink is discharged thereon, and thus can produce thereon a high-definition image.

Disclosed is a label for in-mold forming comprising a thermoplastic resin film base layer and a heat-seal resin layer, wherein a surface of the heat-seal resin layer has a centerline average roughness of 0.5 to 5 micrometers and the label has an air permeability of 10 to 20,000 seconds. When in-mold forming is conducted with the label of the present invention, labeled molded resin articles of various shapes can be manufactured while effectively inhibiting blistering.

A support which contains a base layer (B) composed of a biaxially stretched film of a thermoplastic resin containing an inorganic fine powder; and a surface layer (A) provided at least on one side of such base layer (B), which is composed of a biaxially stretched film of a thermoplastic resin having a three dimensional center plane average roughness of about 0.3 &mgr;m or below and a 60 degrees surface glossiness of about 80% or above is disclosed. A thermal transfer image-recording material using such support can produce a clear image having an excellent glossiness and no external waviness.

A synthetic paper with a multi-layer structure comprising a biaxially stretched film of an olefinic polymer having a melting point (the peak temperature of the DSC curve) of from 130.degree. C. to 210.degree. C. containing from 5 to 40% by weight inorganic fine powders having a mean particle size of from 0.01 to 10 .mu.m as a base material layer (A) having adhered to at least one surface thereof a uniaxially stretched layer (B) having a surface roughness of from 0.3 to 1.5 .mu.m, with the uniaxially stretched layer (B) comprising a propylene .alpha.-olefin copolymer or a high-density polyethylene having a melting point (the peak temperature of the DSC curve) of from 120.degree. C. to 160.degree. C. which is at least 5.degree. C. lower than the melting point of the olefinic polymer of the base material layer (A) and from 8 to 65% by weight inorganic fine powders having a mean particle size of from 0.01 to 5 .mu.m, wherein the surfaces of the inorganic fine powders contained in the uniaxially stretched layer (B) are coated with the propylene .alpha.-olefin copolymer or the high-density polyethylene.

Synthetic paper with multi-layer structure and excellent printing

A thermal transfer image-receiving sheet having (1) a support of (B) a base layer which is a biaxially stretched microporous film of a thermoplastic resin containing from 10 to 45% by weight of an inorganic fine powder and (A) a surface layer which is a biaxially stretched film of a thermoplastic resin having a three-dimensional center-plane average roughness (Ra) of not more than 0.5 .mu.m, surface layer (A) having a spatial average wavelength (.lambda.a), defined by the equation .lambda.a=2.pi.Ra/.DELTA.a, where Ra is the three-dimensional center-plane average roughness and S.DELTA.a is the three-dimensional average slope, of not more than 100 .mu.m and a gloss of not less than 93% as measured at 75.degree. according to JIS P-8142 and (2) an image-receiving layer provided on the surface of the surface layer (A). The image-receiving sheet provides a clear image having high density, high gloss, and reduced rough feeling even using reduced printing energy.

A thermal transfer image-receiving sheet comprising (1) a support comprising (a) a surface layer comprising a biaxially stretched film of a thermoplastic resin containing from 2 to 60% by weight of titanium dioxide fine powder and (b) a base layer comprising a biaxially stretched microporous film of a thermoplastic resin containing from 10 to 45% by weight of an inorganic fine powder and (2) an image-receiving layer provided on surface layer (a) of support (1), in which support (1) has a void volume of from 30 to 60% and a density of from 0.50 to 0.78 g/cm.sup.3, and surface layer (a) of support (1) has a center-line average roughness of not more than 0.5 .mu.m and a Bekk's smoothness of from 4,000 to 100,000 sec. The thermal transfer image-receiving sheet has an excellent cushioning effect due to the number of microvoids present in the support thereof and high sensitivity in a middle tone region owing to the titanium dioxide present in the surface layer of the support to provide a clear image having a high density even with reduced printing energy.

An air baggage tag readable by a bar code reader is composed of a recording layer, a substrate, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer, and release paper, wherein the substrate has a laminate structure composed of (A.sup.1) a fine void-containing stretched thermoplastic resin film and (A.sup.2) a substantially void-free uniaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film having a transverse Elmendorf tear strength of at least 80 g, the thickness of the uniaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.2) is from 10 to 60% of the total thickness of the substrate, and the recording layer is provided on the side of the stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.1) opposite to the stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.2) and has printed thereon a bar code. The baggage tag has high tear strength while exhibiting satisfactory printability and therefore, when attached to each piece of air baggage, is not easily torn apart even on being pulled.

An air baggage tag readable by a bar code reader is composed of a recording layer, a substrate, a self-adhesive layer, and release paper, wherein the substrate has a laminate structure composed of (A.sup.1) a fine void-containing stretched thermoplastic resin film and (A.sup.2) a substantially void-free uniaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film having a transverse Elmendorf tear strength of at least 80 g, the thickness of the uniaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.2) is from 10 to 60% of the total thickness of the substrate, and the recording layer is provided on the side of the stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.1) opposite to the stretched thermoplastic resin film (A.sup.2) and has printed thereon a bar code. The baggage tag has high tear strength while exhibiting satisfactory printability and therefore, when attached to each piece of air baggage, is not easily torn apart even on being pulled.

A thermal transfer recording sheet comprising a support having thereon a thermal transfer image-receiving layer, said support comprising a thermoplastic resin film containing from 3 to 60% by weight of a petroleum resin, where the thermoplastic resin film is preferably a microvoid-containing film, and the thermal transfer recording sheet exhibits excellent surface smoothness and, in case of a microvoid-containing support, also exhibits excellent cushioning properties so that the recording sheet has improved contact with a thermal head to provide a transferred image rich in gradation and which does not curl even after thermal recording.

A support for a dye transfer type thermosensitive printing sheet is disclosed, which comprises a porous film base having a biaxially stretched film of a thermoplastic resin containing an inorganic fine powder having adhered thereon a thermoplastic resin film having a centerline-average roughness of not more than 0.5 .mu.m as a surface layer on which a dye transfer type thermosensitive printing layer is to be provided, said surface layer having a thickness of from 0.3 to 1.5 .mu.m and a Bekk's smoothness of from 2500 to 7000 seconds, and said support having an opacity of not less than 70%, a density of not more than 0.91 g/cm.sup.3, and a compression ratio of from 15 to 35% under a stress of 32 kg/cm.sup.2. A dye transfer type thermosensitive printing sheet using the support of the invention has excellent surface smoothness and exhibits considerable compressibility and, therefore, shows improved adhesion or contact with a printing head to form an image rich in gradation.
