The present invention is to provide a cathode active material used for a lithium ion secondary battery which has a large charge-discharge capacity, and excels in charge-discharge cycle properties, output properties and productivity, and, a lithium ion secondary battery using the same. The cathode active material used for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises a lithium transition metal composite oxide represented by the following Formula (1); LiNiCoMnMO, where, in the formula (1), M is at least one metal element other than Li, Ni, Co, and Mn; and a, b, c, d, e, and α satisfy the following conditions: −0.04≤a≤0.04, 0.80≤b<1.00, 0≤c≤0.04, 0<d<0.20, b+c+d+e=1, −0.2<α<0.2, and c and d in the Formula (1) satisfy c/d≤0.75.

The cathode active material used for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises a lithium-transition metal composite oxide having an &#x3b1;-NaFeOtype crystal structure and represented by the following formula (1); LiNiCoMO, where, in the formula (1), M is at least one metal element other than Li, Ni and Co; and a, b, c, d and a are respectively numbers satisfying &#x2212;0.04&#x2264;a&#x2264;0.04, 0.80&#x2264;b&#x2264;1.0, 0&#x2264;c&#x2264;0.06, b+c+d=1, and &#x2212;0.2&#x3c;&#x3b1;&#x3c;0.2, and an a-axis lattice constant of the crystal structure is 2.878&#xd7;10m or more.

A secondary battery is disclosed. The secondary battery has a bipolar electrode, an electrolyte layer, and a porous insulator. The bipolar layer includes a positive electrode layer formed on one surface of a collector foil and a negative electrode formed on the other surface of the collector foil. The electrolyte layer is famed at least on a surface of at least one of the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer. The porous insulator is formed to a lateral surface of at least one of the positive electrode layer, the negative electrode layer, and the electrolyte layer. The electrolyte layer is laminated by at least one layer relative to the bipolar electrode to configure a bipolar battery. The porous insulator also includes an inorganic particle and a reactive agent for lowering a fluidity of the liquid electrolyte bleeding from the electrolyte layer.

The process of the present invention comprises adding an alkaline earth metal hydroxide such as barium hydroxide to a radioactive liquid waste containing sodium sulfate as the main component to convert the latter into an insoluble alkaline earth metal salt such as barium sulfate, adding silicic acid to by-product sodium hydroxide to prepare water glass and solidifying the radioactive insoluble alkaline earth metal salt with the water glass. According to this process, exudation of radioactive substances from the solid can be prevented and the solid having a high durability can be obtained at a low cost.
