A vehicle-mounted antenna system includes a combined antenna apparatus that has a GPS antenna and a short-range wireless communication antenna. The GPS antenna is directional in a vertical direction and the short-range wireless communication antenna is directional in a horizontal direction. The combined antenna apparatus is mounted below an instrument panel of the vehicle by a mounting bracket in such a manner that the short-range wireless communication antenna is directional in the horizontal direction toward an interior of a vehicle. This approach ensures adequate performance of the short-range wireless communication antenna and standardizes a manner in which the short-range wireless communication antenna is mounted to the vehicle.

Vehicle-mounted antenna system

The vehicle antenna includes a frame made of conductive material and surrounding sides of a display section of a monitor display device mounted on a vehicle, and a radiation element attached to the frame. The frame serves as a ground plane of the vehicle antenna. The radiation element is situated in such a position that the radiation element is covered by a front panel escutcheon of the monitor display device.

A vehicular antenna is mounted on a circuit board in a monitor. The circuit board has a conductor substrate that is used as a ground for the antenna, and it has a frame shape that has a rectangular inner edge. The circuit board has an electrical contact for connecting the antenna. The electrical contact is placed at &#x3bb;/4 away from an axisymmetrical line (center line) with respect to the inner edge. As a result, a gain of the vehicular antenna is not reduced in a front direction even when the vehicular antenna uses the frame shape conductor as the ground.

Method for installing antenna, antenna installation structure, and monitor

An antenna unit includes a substrate having an antenna device and a radio absorbing device. The antenna device, substrate and radio absorbing device are constructed of a patch device, a conductive material and ferrite, respectively. The radio absorbing device is attached to the rear surface of the substrate. The radio absorbing device reduces incoming radio wave signals to travel to the rear surface of the substrate due to reflections by surrounding metal parts.
