The present invention provides a camera with AF auxiliary illumination in which the focus position of an image taking lens is AF controlled to bring an object into focus, based on contrast information of an image acquired from an image pickup device, and if the photometric value of the object is less than a predetermined value, an AF auxiliary illumination is directed to the object, wherein the AF auxiliary illumination reflected from the object is measured, in which if the photometric value is greater than or equal to a specified value, the AF auxiliary illumination is dimmed out, and the emission amount of the AF auxiliary illumination is controlled based on the focus position of the image taking lens.

A magnetic recording and regenerating unit for photographic film and a camera, which feed photographic film coated with a magnetic recording layer, records magnetic information in the magnetic recording layer, and regenerates magnetic information from the magnetic recording layer. In the magnetic recording and regenerating unit for a camera, the number of turns of a coil wound around a core included in a magnetic head is small. Thus, one magnetic head is able to record and regenerate magnetic information. The number of turns of the coil is determined so as to output a regenerated waveform which does not enable reading of the magnetic information but permits determination of whether any magnetic information is recorded or not. Whether any magnetic information is recorded or not is determined based on the output voltage from a smoothing circuit, a peak hold circuit, etc. which receive signals output from the magnetic head via an amplifier.

A camera or a remote controller with memory stores pieces of title information which correspond to predefined titles. The title information includes a title number and title display data. The title number indicates a predefined title to be printed together with a frame image on photographic film. The title display data is displayed on a LCD in the same mode as a printing mode. A camera has a feeding motor by use of which photo film is fed. 24 groups of perforations are arranged along one edge of the photo film, and regularly at a distance L2 one group from another. Each of the perforation groups is associated with one frame, and includes two perforations arranged at a distance L1 therebetween. To control the photo film feeding, pulses are generated in synchronism with the photo film feeding. The perforations are detected through a sensor. The pulses are counted while the photo film is fed by the distance L1 or L2, and during a period started upon movement of a first one of the perforations past the sensor and finished upon detection of a second one of the perforations at the sensor. A counted number of the pulses is compared with a reference value upon finish of counting the pulses. If the counted number is equal to or more than the reference value, the feeding motor is decelerated. Afterwards, the feeding motor is stopped upon detection of a third one of the perforations at the sensor. If the counted number is less than the reference value, the feeding motor is still driven.

Film feeding control device and method for camera

A camera having a magnetic head and a light emitting element for recording information such as photographing date on a photographic film. A film guide plate is fixed to the camera body on the back side of the exposure frame, and spaced by a predetermined distance from the exposure frame. A circuit board is fixedly mounted on the back side of the film guide plate. The magnetic head is mounted on the film guide plate and electrically connected to the circuit board. A plurality of projections are formed on the back surface of the film guide plate integrally therewith. Each projection has a slit formed therein. The light emitting element and a perforation sensor are mounted on the circuit board and face to the photographic film via the slits. The circuit board has circuits for driving the light emitting element and magnetic head, a liquid crystal panel, a controller, and other circuit elements.
