Disclosed are various embodiments for distributed resource scheduling. An eviction request from a first host is received. The eviction request comprises data regarding a virtual machine to be migrated from the first host. The eviction request is then broadcast to a plurality of hosts. A plurality of responses are received from the plurality of hosts, each response comprising a score representing an ability of a respective one of the plurality of hosts to act as a new host for the virtual machine. A second host is selected from the plurality of hosts to act as the new host for the virtual machine based at least in part on the score in each of the plurality of responses. Then, a response is sent to the first host, the response containing an identifier of the second host.

Decentralized resource scheduling

Systems and techniques are described for generating test cases. In one example, a manual test of code is performed. The manual test uses proxy code to detect at least one input to the code and a data transfer between the code and other code. The data transfer includes an input to the other code and an output from the other code. A file is generated that includes the at least one input to the code, the input to the other code, the output from the other code, and data that specifies that the manual test of the code resulted in an expected output. A mock test automates the manual test of the code based at least in part on the file.

Generating test cases

A process of obtaining, in effect, a multi-virtual-machine snapshot by taking a single-virtual-machine snapshot begins with creating, by a host hypervisor, a host virtual machine and a guest hypervisor. The guest hypervisor executes on the host virtual machine. Virtual machines to be included together in an effective multi-virtual-machine snapshot are migrated to the guest hypervisor. A single-virtual-machine snapshot is taken, by the host hypervisor, of the host virtual machine. The snapshot contains the state data for the virtual machines migrated to the guest hypervisor.

The present disclosure describes methods and systems that monitor the utilization of computational resources. In one implementation, a system periodically measures the utilization of computational resources, determines an amount of computational-resource wastage, identifies the source of the wastage, and generates recommendations that reduce or eliminate the wastage. In some implementations, recommendations are generated based on a cost of the computational-resource wastage. The cost of computational-resource wastage can be determined from factors that include the cost of providing a computational resource, an amount of available computational resources, and the amount of actual computational-resource usage. Methods of presenting and modeling computational-resource usage and methods that associate an economic cost with resource wastage are presented.

Method and system that measures and reports computational-resource usage in a data center

Systems and techniques are described for generating test cases. A described technique includes monitoring a manual test of a code portion. The monitoring can include identifying one or more performed operations performed during the manual test. A seed file can be generated that includes data describing the one or more performed operations. A mock test can be generated for the code portion using the seed file. The mock test can include one or more mock operations that match the one or more performed operations. The mock test can be performed on the code portion, including performing the one or more mock operations using the code portion.

Techniques for performing dynamic cost per unit resource usage in a virtual data center are described. In one example embodiment, an initial unit resource usage price is received for the virtual data center for a first cycle. Further, capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) information of the virtual data center of the first cycle is obtained. Furthermore, a target return on investment (ROI) for the virtual data center for a second cycle is received. A unit resource usage price is then computed for the second cycle using the received initial unit resource usage price for the first cycle and the CAPEX and OPEX information of the first cycle. The unit resource usage price is then dynamically calibrated for the second cycle using the computed unit resource usage price and the target ROI.
