A contraction joint includes an upper tubular member, an upper mandrel, a lower mandrel, a nipple housing connected to the upper tubular member, a support sleeve disposed around the upper mandrel, an activation dog disposed within the support sleeve, a lock housing disposed in an annular space between the nipple housing and the mandrel, the lock housing connecting the upper mandrel to the lower mandrel, and a stroke locking mechanism disposed within the lock housing. In the locked position, the lock housing is affixed to the support sleeve with a shear mechanism, the stroke locking mechanism is supported by the support sleeve, and a stroke locking mechanism profile and an activation profile of the activation dog prevent the nipple housing from moving.

Contraction joint for fiber optics intelligent completion

A contraction joint includes a mandrel at least partially disposed within an upper tubular member, the upper tubular member being capable of moving uphole and downhole to change a length of the contraction joint. The contraction joint also includes a nipple housing connected to the upper tubular member, a piston housing connected to the nipple housing, a support piston disposed in the piston housing, the support piston being affixed to an upper mandrel sub of the mandrel via at least one piston retaining device, a lock housing disposed between the upper tubular member and the upper mandrel sub, and a stroke locking mechanism disposed within the lock housing, the stroke locking mechanism including a profile that engages the nipple housing.

Contraction joint for intelligent completion and downhole completion system

A well sampling apparatus is described herein. The well sampling apparatus includes one or more pressure-activated samplers in a sampling assembly. The samplers are coupled to an activating mechanism that includes a remotely activated local actuator. The remotely activated local actuator is coupled to a pressure source that, when released by the remotely activated local actuator, operates the pressure-activated sample to obtain a sample fluid.

Sampler trigger mechanism

A technique facilitates obtaining samples of well fluid or other fluid. A sampling tool comprises a sample chamber for collecting the fluid sample. Access to the sample chamber is controlled with a rod shiftable within the sampling tool. Additionally, a locking mechanism works in cooperation with the rod to lock the rod against undesirable movement at various stages of the sampling operation. The locking mechanism may comprise a pair of locking features which engage a groove in the rod to initially block inadvertent closure of access to the sample chamber and subsequently to block inadvertent opening of access to the sample chamber after collection of the fluid sample.
