Method and an apparatus for producing web-shaped plastic foil

Packaging laminate with excellent sealing and barrier properties comprising a skeletal layer (11) of plastic and filler mixed in the plastic and a barrier layer (12) of plastic of the same type as the plastic in the skeletal layer in a mixture with plastic of another type than the plastic in the skeletal layer, placed against one side of the skeletal layer. In order to improve the sealing properties of the packaging laminate the barrier layer (12) has been provided with electrically conducting material finely distributed in the barrier layer, preferably soot (carbon black) with the aid of which the packaging laminate can be sealed by means of inductive heating (IH) and dielectric sealing.

The disclosure relates to a method of producing interiorly sterile, cup or beaker shaped containers. A starting material for the containers is produced by mixing inorganic filler with a thermoformable polymer material in such a mixing ratio that the quantity of filler in the produced starting material is at least 40% of the total weight of the mixture. The starting material is extruded into a continuous web which is heated to a temperature suitable for thermoforming of the web, at least 190.degree. C., and is fed into a forming machine of conventional type for thermoforming of the web under vacuum at the above-mentioned temperature for forming web-like continuous, interiorly sterile, cup or beaker shaped containers. The containers are finally separated from one another by incisions in the web regions between the opening contours of each respective container.

Method of producing interiorly sterile, cup or beaker shaped containers

A packaging container which is deep drawn from a thermoformable material includes a first part and a second part. The first part is provided with a front plane, a top plane, a bottom plane and two side planes. The second part is mountable on the first part to define a rear plane of the container. The front plane of the container forms an angle of less than 90.degree. with the bottom plane and an angle of greater than 90.degree. with the top plane.

A packaging container is manufactured through fold forming, vacuum forming, injection molding or other processing to shape a plastically deformable, flexible material, comprising a tubular container body with two longitudinal edges which delimit between them a mainly flat container wall. In order to prevent deformation and/or cracking of the packaging container with normal handling of the side walls, the packaging container is provided with reinforcing elements formed through plastic deformation of the wall material in the region of the longitudinal edges. The reinforcing elements strengthen and stiffen the container and enable it to be conveniently gripped with the hand without the risk of the edges and/or the adjacent side walls being cracked or deformed.

Strengthened edge packaging containers

Packaging material for shaping into form stable liquid-tight containers with good oxygen-tight properties through fold forming, thermo-forming or other mechanical processing for shaping of the material. The packaging material (10) comprises a skeletal layer (11) and a barrier layer (12) attached to the skeletal layer with good adhesion. The skeletal layer (11) is composed of a mixture of plastic, preferably polyolefine, and filler to an amount of between 50 and 80% of the total weight of the mixture, and the barrier layer (12) is composed of a plastic material comprising plastic of the same type as the plastic in the skeletal layer (11), preferably polyolefine, in a mixture with plastic of another type than the one mentioned. The plastic of the aforesaid other type in the barrier layer (12) can be an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer, polyvinylidene chloride, polyamide or similar plastic with good oxygen-tight properties, preferably an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer to an amount of 40% or more of the total weight of the barrier layer.

Flexible packaging material in the form of a sheet or strip for shaping into form-stable, liquid-tight containers through fold forming, thermo-forming or other mechanical processing for shaping the material. The material (10) has a stiffening skeletal layer (11) composed of a mixture of plastic and filler to the amount of between 50 and 80% of the total weight of the mixture, and also at least one outer layer (12; 13) of plastic of the same kind as the plastic in the skeletal layer (11). With the aid of the said outer plastic layers the material is given excellent sealing properties, at the same time as the filler in the skeletal layer (11) can be effectively protected against attack from the contents of the container produced.

Flexible, creased material in sheet or web form for use in the manufacture of liquid-tight packing containers of good dimensional rigidity includes one or more base layers laminated to one another. The base layer is a mineral-filled thermoplastics material comprising between 50 and 80% calculated on the total weight of the mixture, of an inorganic, particulate mineral filler. The thermoplastic material is chosen among propylene-based polymers with a melt index of between 0.5 and 5 according to ASTM (2.16 kg, 230.degree. C.) and the base layer or base layers are provided with a pattern of crease lines which have been formed by plastic deformation in connection with or immediately after the extrusion of the base layer or base layers.

Flexible packing material in sheet or web form

Packaging container of a material containing a skeletal layer of plastic and filler mixed into the plastic in a quality of between 50 and 80% of the total weight of the skeletal layer. In order to facilitate the opening of the container the container is provided with a tearing mark incorporated in the packaging material, along which the material in the container must be torn to expose a container opening through which the contents of the container are made accessible. The tearing mark consists of an unbroken recess in the skeletal layer or a similar linear recess weakening the material with a depth of penetration of approximately 10-30% of the total thickness of the skeletal layer.

Flexible, creased material in sheet or web form for use in the manufacture of liquid-tight packing containers of good dimensional rigidity comprises one or more base layers laminated to one another. The base layer is a mineral-filled thermoplastics material comprising between 50 and 80% calculated on the total weight of the mixture, of an inorganic, particulate mineral filler. The thermoplastics material is chosen among propylene-based polymers with a melt index of between 0.5 and 5 according to ASTM (2.16 kg, 230.degree. C.) and the base layer or base layers are provided with a pattern of crease lines which have been formed by plastic deformation in connection with or immediately after the extrusion of the base layer or base layers.
