An image-forming apparatus is equipped with a neutralization light source that is disposed between a primary transfer position and the cleaning unit, in a direction of rotation of the first image carrier that composes the image-forming unit; irradiates a first neutralization light from a position opposing the primary transfer position on a first image carrier up to a position opposing the cleaning unit; and irradiates a second neutralization light from a position opposing the developer unit for a second image carrier that composes an image-forming unit disposed adjacent to the image-forming unit at a downstream side in the direction of transfer belt rotation, up to a position opposite the primary transfer position.

An image forming apparatus that includes: a photoconductive drum; a developing roller that is arranged opposite the photoconductive drum and that carries toner; a detecting portion that detects an occurrence of electrical discharge between the developing roller and the photoconductive drum; a control portion that controls the apparatus, that receives an output of the detecting portion and then recognizes the occurrence of the electrical discharge; a direct voltage applying portion that is connected to the developing roller; and an alternating voltage applying portion is disclosed herein.

Image forming apparatus having a photoconductive drum

Charge removing light is guided by an optical path defining member () from a charge removing unit () toward a photosensitive drum (). A distance between an end surface () of the optical path defining member () and a surface on an axially central part of the photosensitive drum () is less than a distance between the end surface () and the surface on the axially opposite ends of the photosensitive drum (). Thus an irradiation width and an amount of the charge removing light projected onto the surface of the photosensitive drum () are increased on the opposite ends. With this arrangement, the amount of generated light carriers can be reduced on the axially central part, as compared with the axially opposite ends, and a surface potential distribution non-uniformity due to a difference in nip distance between the photosensitive drum () and a charging roller () can be eliminated.

An image forming device comprises: charging means for uniformly charging the surface of a photosensitive member; charging control means for controlling the charging output of the charging means; and table storing means for storing a plurality of control tables stipulating controlled variables for controlling the charging output in relation to the passage of time, the charging control means controlling the charging output based on one or more control tables selected from the plurality of control tables stored in the table storing means.
