A selective oxide-forming alloy, a coating formed from, and a machine component including the coating are provided. The selective oxide-forming alloy includes between atomic percent and 26 atomic percent silicon (Si), between 21 atomic percent and 27 atomic percent titanium (Ti), between 30 atomic percent and 39 atomic percent aluminum (Al), between 2 atomic percent and 10 atomic percent hafnium (Hf), and a balance of niobium (Nb).

Selective oxide-forming alloy, coating formed from and machine component including same

A composition includes, by weight percent: Cobalt (Co) between about 4.5 and about 7.0; Chromium (Cr) between about 10.2 and about 11.5; Molybdenum (Mo) between about 0.5 and about 2.5; Tungsten (W) between about 4.0 and about 5.5; Rhenium (Re) between about 0 and about 1.2; Aluminum (Al) between about 6.2 and about 6.8; Tantalum (Ta) between about 4.5 and about 6.0; Titanium (Ti) between about 0 and about 0.5; Hafnium (Hf) between about 0 and about 0.5; Carbon (C) between about 0 and about 0.2; Boron (B) between about 0 and about 0.02; and the balance Nickel (Ni), and other incidental impurities.

Nickel-based superalloy

A high-temperature, high-strength, oxidation-resistant cobalt-nickel base alloy is disclosed. The alloy includes, in weight percent: about 3.5 to about 4.9% of Al, about 12.2 to about 16.0% of W, about 24.5 to about 32.0% Ni, about 6.5% to about 10.0% Cr, about 5.9% to about 11.0% Ta, and the balance Co and incidental impurities. A method of making an article having high-temperature strength, cyclic oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance is disclosed. The method includes forming a high-temperature, high-strength, oxidation-resistant cobalt-nickel base alloy as described herein; forming an article from the alloy; solution-treating the alloy by a solution heat treatment; and aging the alloy by providing at least one aging heat treatment at an aging temperature that is less than the gamma-prime solvus temperature, wherein the alloy is configured to form a continuous, protective, adherent oxide layer on an alloy surface upon exposure to a high-temperature oxidizing environment.

Cobalt-nickel base alloy and method of making an article therefrom

An airfoil includes a multi-part body and one or more thermally conductive pins. The multi-part body has an interior region and is formed from multiple pieces joined with each other at an interface. The pieces have multiple cavities and at least one of the pieces defines airfoil cooling channels disposed within the interior region of the body. The one or more thermally conductive pins are within the interior region of the body and extend across the interface. Each of the thermally conductive pins has a first segment disposed within a corresponding cavity of a first piece of the multiple pieces and a second segment disposed within a corresponding cavity of a second piece of the multiple pieces.

Airfoil with thermally conductive pins

A cobalt-nickel base alloy is disclosed. The alloy includes, in weight percent: greater than about 4 % of Al, about 10 to about 20 % of W, about 10 to about 40 % Ni, about 5 to 20 % Cr and the balance Co and incidental impurities. The alloy has a microstructure that is substantially free of a CoAl phase having a B2 crystal structure and configured to form a continuous, adherent aluminum oxide layer on an alloy surface upon exposure to a high-temperature oxidizing environment. A method of making an article of the alloy includes: selecting the alloy; forming an article from the alloy; solution-treating the alloy; and aging the alloy to form an alloy microstructure that is substantially free of a CoAl phase having a B2 crystal structure, wherein the alloy is configured to form a continuous, adherent aluminum oxide layer on an alloy surface upon exposure to a high-temperature oxidizing environment.

Alumina-forming cobalt-nickel base alloy and method of making an article therefrom

A method of bonding superalloys is provided. The method includes: aligning a first superalloy subcomponent having a gamma-prime solvus g'and a second superalloy subcomponent having a gamma-prime solvus g&#x2032;, with a filler material that includes at least 1.5 wt % boron disposed between the first and second superalloy subcomponents; performing a first heat treatment at a temperature T, where Tis above the solidus of the filler material and below the liquidus of the filler material; and performing a second heat treatment at a temperature T, where Tis greater than T, and where Tis greater than or equal to the lower of g&#x2032;and g&#x2032;.

Joining process for superalloys

A component such as a turbine bucket or blade, and method for making the component, are presented. One embodiment is an article that comprises an airfoil casting portion comprising a plurality of integral regions, wherein the plurality of integral regions comprises a single-crystalline region and a columnar-grained region. Another embodiment is a method for fabricating an article. The method comprises providing a quantity of molten metal; providing a mold defining an airfoil portion having an axial direction and a transverse direction, wherein the airfoil portion of the mold comprises a single-crystal growth region and a columnar growth region disposed along the transverse direction from the single crystal growth region; introducing the molten metal into the mold; and solidifying the metal such that a solidification front progresses in the axial direction to produce an airfoil casting portion comprising a single-crystalline region and a columnar-grained region.

Turbine airfoil component and method for making

A cobalt-nickel alloy composition is described, containing about 20% to about 28% cobalt; about 37% to about 46% nickel; at least about 6% chromium; aluminum; and at least one refractory metal. The total weight of cobalt, aluminum, and refractory metal in the composition is less than about 50% of the total weight of the composition. Moreover, the alloy composition comprises both a (Co, Ni)-gamma phase and an L1-structured (gamma prime) phase. Various components made from the cobalt-nickel alloy composition are also described. Examples include high-temperature machinery and devices, e.g., components of gas turbine engines.

Cobalt-nickel superalloys, and related articles

Nickel based alloys are provided comprising from about 7.0 weight percent (wt %) to about 12.0 wt % chromium, from about 0.1 wt % to about 5 wt % molybdenum, from about 0.2 wt % to about 4.5 wt % titanium, from about 4 wt % to about 6 wt % aluminum, from about 3 wt % to about 4.9 wt % cobalt, from about 6.0 wt % to about 9.0 wt % tungsten, from about 4.0 wt % to about 6.5 wt % tantalum, from about 0.05 wt % to about 0.6 wt % hafnium, up to about 1.0 wt % niobium, up to about 0.02 wt % boron, and up to about 0.1 wt % carbon, with the remainder being nickel and incidental impurities. The alloys may be cast, directionally solidified and heat treated to provide articles having a gamma prime fraction of greater than about 50%.
