A method and apparatus for establishing a voice call by way of an electronic mail (email) message is provided. According to one embodiment of the invention, a first party (i.e. offeror), generates or causes to be generated, an electronic token representing an offer to participate in a voice which is transmitted to an offeree party in association with an email message. Upon receiving the electronic token, the offeree has the option of accepting the offer by activating the electronic token. When the offeree activates the electronic token, a first voice call is established with the offeree and a second voice call is established with a destination party identified by the offeror. Once the two calls have been established, they are bridged together to place the offeree in voice communication with the destination party. In one embodiment, the destination party is the offeror.

Method and apparatus for establishing a voice call by way of an electronic mail message

A computer system is programmed with a scheduler for scheduling multi-point electronic conferences with a multi-point conferencing control service. The scheduler is equipped to automatically connect a user to a remote directory service for selection of some or all of the participants the user wants to be included in the multi-point electronic conference being scheduled. In the presently preferred embodiments, the user is connected to an independent directory service of the user's choice, and the independent directory services available for selection are public directory services having names and connection addresses for a large number of persons.

In one embodiment, the operating logic of a first communication interface device, a callee, is enhanced to include logic for transferring a direct inward dial data call it received from a second communication interface device, the caller, to a third communication interface device, the transferee, where the first communication interface device and the third communication interface device are coupled to the same PBX. The operating logic of the second and the third communication interface devices, the original caller and the transferee, are also enhanced to include logic for cooperating with the first communication interface device to effectuate the transfer. In one embodiment, the operating logic of the first, second, and third communication interface devices are further enhanced with the enhancements provided to the second and third, first and third, and first and second communication interface devices respectively, to allow each of the three communication interface devices to be the caller having its call transferred, the transferor callee, as well as the transferee callee, at different points in time.

Method and apparatus for transferring a data call

An on-line/information service system is constituted with a caller management server and a number of on-line/information servers. The caller management server is equipped with multiple ports and complementary hardware/software, including a call management application, for managing multiple concurrent calls, which includes optionally validating the calls depending on whether services are provided on a callee service provider or caller basis, assigning and connecting the calls to corresponding on-line/information service delivery environments on the on-line/information servers. The on-line/information servers are equipped with adequate hardware/software, including an on-line/information service manager application and a number of on-line/information service applications, to support multiple on-line/information service delivery environments. Each on-line/information service delivery environment is equipped with streamlined application sharing host services, thereby allowing end-user PC equipped with streamlined application sharing client services to access on-line/information services provided by the on-line/information service applications.
