Methods for determining likelihood of thrombosis based on patient-specific anatomic, valve, and flow parameters are disclosed herein. Such methods are used to select a transcatheter aortic valve that decreases likelihood of thrombosis after TAVR procedures. The methods correlate a number of fluid flow and geometric parameters such as stasis volume, neo-sinus volume, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity, heart rate, the circulation, ejection time, velocity of the main jet, wall shear stress, total kinetic energy in the neo sinus volume, width of the neo-sinus, height or depth of the neo-sinus, the angle between the velocity direction and the stent of the transcatheter valve, the distance from the tip of the leaflet perpendicular to the leaflet edge and intersecting the sinotubular junction, and the cross-sectional area of the neo-sinus taken from a longitudinal or axial perspective. Such parameters are used to derive empirical or semi-empirical mathematical models to determine the likelihood of thrombosis.

Systems and methods for predicting thrombosis for heart valve replacements

Systems relate to a reusable console system that can be used with a plurality of different types of disposable cassettes. The cassettes may be structured for different therapies, different fluid volumes, among others, or a combination thereof. The disposable cassette may include a plurality of fluid circuits. Each circuit may include a pump chamber disposed along the path. The disposable cassette and the panel of a console may be configured to mate so that each of the one or more actuators of the console align with a pump chamber of the disposable cassette. The console may be configured to control a flow of the fluid in the path in the cassette when the disposable cassette is mated on the panel. Because the console can be mated with different cassettes, the system can efficiently and accurately deliver different medical fluid therapies and/or different patient populations (e.g., pediatric and adult).

Medical fluid cassettes and related systems

Various embodiments of the present invention provide a conduit device including an attaching device configured for defining a helical pathway through a tissue wall and complementary ring in cooperation for securing the device within an aperture defined in the tissue wall. Some embodiments of the present invention further provide a system for implanting a conduit device in a tissue wall. More specifically, some embodiments provide a system including a coring device for defining an aperture in a tissue by removing and retaining a tissue core and securely implanting a conduit device therein so as to provide fluid communication between a first and second surface of the tissue wall via the conduit device.

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system is described which quantifies regurgitant flow through a mitral valve. A flow quantification processor () in the ultrasound system produces a mathematical model of a flow velocity field proximal to a regurgitant orifice. The velocity field model produces values of velocity vectors directed toward the regurgitant orifice. These modeled values are modified for the effects of ultrasound physics and ultrasound system operation to produce expected velocity values. The expected velocity values are compared with actual Doppler velocities measured by the ultrasound system, and the differences accumulated to a mean square error which is used to adjust parameters of the model such as the orifice location and flow velocities. When this iterative processing converges with a desired comparison, parameters derived from the finally adjusted model are used to calculate the true orifice location, flow rate, and volume flow.

Analysis of mitral regurgitation by ultrasonic imaging

The devices and systems are medical fluid treatment therapies. The device and systems are configured and capable of operating based on small volumes of fluids. The devices and systems include a pump configured for small volume of a fluid. The pump may include a first conduit configured for inflow of the fluid; a second conduit configured for outflow of the fluid; a fluid chamber configured to move the fluid through the pump; a diaphragm configured to force the fluid through the fluid chamber by indirectly exerting force on the fluid chamber; and a connector configured to removably attach the pump to a motor.

Methods, devices, and systems for moving a fluid along a fluid path for treatment

Various embodiments of the present invention provide a conduit system including an outer lumen, an inner lumen, and an attaching device. In other embodiments, a multiple access port device adapted for communication with at least one of an outer lumen, an inner lumen, or an attaching device of a conduit system is provided. In yet other embodiments, a system including an inner lumen that is collapsible is provided. Means for closing a conduit system are also provided, including a plug for insertion through an attaching device and a variable radius coiled member associated with an attaching device.

Systems for implanting and using a conduit within a tissue wall

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system is described which quantifies regurgitant flow through a plurality of pinhole leaks or a slit leak of a mitral valve. A plurality of orifice locations of a leaking valve are identified and Doppler values obtained from a flow velocity field proximal each orifice. The Doppler values of each flow velocity field vectorially relating to the orifice location are processed to produce a measure of flow through the orifice. The flow measurements for a plurality of such orifices are summed to produce a quantified measure of regurgitant flow through a plurality of pinhole leaks or along a slit leak.

Analysis of mitral regurgitation from slit orifices by ultrasonic imaging

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system is described which quantifies regurgitant flow through a mitral valve, including the automatic indication of the location of a regurgitant orifice in an ultrasound image. A clinician images the regurgitant valve and indicates in the image the presumed location of the regurgitant orifice (). A flow quantification processor is responsive to this initial location estimate by the clinician to calculate a refined estimation of the orifice location. The refined location is indicated on the ultrasound image by the imaging system, either by relocating an icon placed by the clinician, or displaying a second icon () on the image at the refined location.

Automated identification of the location of a regurgitant orifice of a mitral valve in an ultrasound image

The cinching apparatus () comprising: an anchoring component having a distal end a proximal end; the distal end of the anchoring component having an engaging member (). A locking component () and a tension member () wherein the anchoring component is enabled to be positioned on a first target site of a tissue component and the locking component () is enabled to be positioned on a second target site of a tissue component of the heart, and the tension member () can be coupled to both the anchoring component and the locking component () to adjust the distance between the first and second target sites.

Systems and methods to control the dimension of a heart valve

Papillary muscle position control devices, systems, and methods are provided. According to an exemplary embodiment, a papillary muscle position control device generally comprises a first anchor, a second anchor, and a support structure. The first anchor can be configured to fixedly connect to an in situ valve of a heart ventricle. The second anchor can be configured to fixedly connect to a muscle wall of the valve. The support structure can be configured to have an adjustable length and be coupled to the first anchor and second anchor such that adjusting the length of the support structure varies a distance between the first anchor and the second anchor. Other embodiments are also claimed and described.

An annuloplasty ring, configured for implantation in the annulus of a heart valve, comprising multiple segments each of which are geometrically shaped from a three dimensional perspective to conform to the anatomic shape of the valve annulus. In one embodiment, at least one of the multiple segments of the annuloplasty ring is configured to facilitate a reduction of tension on heart valve tissue and eliminate a substantial portion of potential pressure or force that may be applied to the atrio-ventricular node by the annuloplasty ring when inserted into a heart valve. In another embodiment, at least one of the multiple segments of the annuloplasty ring are configured to include an assembly that facilitates selective adjustment of a segment's respective length and/or shape. The adjustment of the length of one of the ring segment's results in an adjustment of at least one angle between at least one set of other ring segments, thereby causing an adjustment to the geometric characteristics of the ring.

Annuloplasty rings and methods for heart valve repair

The present invention provides a vascular conduit device including a deformable flange and complementary securing ring in cooperation for securing the device within an aperture defined in a tissue wall. The present invention further provides a system for implanting such a vascular conduit device in a tissue wall. More specifically, the present invention provides a system including a coring device for defining an aperture in a tissue wall (such as a ventricle and/or a blood vessel) and securely implanting a vascular conduit device therein so as to provide fluid communication between a first and second surface of the tissue wall via the vascular conduit device.
