An external device transfers a key to an implantable medical device over a proximity communication and then establishes a first far field communication session with the implantable medical device where the key is used for the first communication session. This first communication session may occur before implantation while the implantable medical device is positioned outside of the sterile field so that using a proximity communication is easily achieved. Once the implantable medical device is passed into the sterile field for implantation, the external device may then establish a second far field communication session with the implantable medical device where the last key that was used for the first communication session is again used for the second communication session which avoids the need for another proximity communication to occur within the sterile field.

Methods, devices, and systems for communicating with an implantable medical device of a last far field communication session during a subsequent far field communication session while using a same session key

A device for programming an implantable fluid delivery device receives a therapeutic agent concentration, wherein the therapeutic agent concentration comprises a mass of the therapeutic agent per unit of volume. The device further determines a reference rate value based on the received therapeutic agent concentration, wherein the reference rate value comprises a mass per unit of time. The device additionally displays a graphical user interface comprising a horizontal axis and a vertical axis, wherein the horizontal axis represents time and the vertical axis represents rates of delivery of the fluid by the implantable fluid delivery device. The maximum value of the vertical axis displayed in the graphical user interface is determined based on the determined reference rate value and is determined to be less than a maximum therapeutic agent infusion rate.

Determining vertical axis scale for implantable fluid delivery system

An implantable medical device is capable of delivering therapeutic output to a patient. A controller, programmable by a medical professional, is operatively coupled to the implantable medical device to, in part, program the therapeutic output to be delivered to the patient. The controller has an interface allowing the medical professional to graphically select an amount of the therapeutic output to be delivered to the patient in at least one of a series of discrete timer intervals. The graphic selection may be aided by the use of a light pen or other pointing device to sketch the infusion pattern. Computer programs using algorithms may be utilized to translate the information inputted through the light pen into an infusion program.

Interface for implantable medical device programming

In some examples, a method including wirelessly communicating, using an external medical device, with an implantable medical device via a telemetry head device, wherein the telemetry head device includes a power source configured to supply operational power to the telemetry head device; determining a first power level of the power source while the external medical device wirelessly communicates with the implantable medical device via the telemetry head device; suspending wireless communication between the implantable medical device and the external medical device based on the determined first power level. The wireless communication may be resumed, e.g., at the point communication was suspended, upon determining that the power level of the power source has been increased after the communication was suspended.

In general, aspects of this disclosure describe example techniques which may be used to identify lead migration or estimate dissemination of electrical stimulation therapy through tissue of a patient. For example, an image processing device may receive a selection of a segment in a first image of patient implanted with one or more leads. The image processing device may reconstruct the selected segment in the first image with a corresponding segment in a second image. With the reconstructed segment, a user or the image processing device may be able to identify lead migration or estimate dissemination of electrical stimulation therapy through tissue of the patient.

Image-based analysis of implantable medical device positioning

The disclosure relates to image-based characterization of implanted medical leads used for electrical stimulation therapy. Characterization of implanted leads may include determination of lead configuration and lead orientation. The lead characterization techniques may make use of two-dimensional (2D) lead imaging in combination with known three-dimensional (3D) lead configuration data for various lead types. Lead characteristics determined from 2D lead imaging may be compared to lead dimensions calculated from known 3D lead characteristics to characterize implanted leads in terms of lead configuration and orientation. The lead characterization may be used to automatically determine or verify led configuration and orientation, and to aid in programming electrical stimulation therapy parameters.
