An SCR after-treatment system for a locomotive engine includes an enclosure defining an exhaust flow path from an inlet to an outlet, the inlet being flexibly connected to an exhaust outlet of the engine, an injector located in the inlet and configured to provide an aerosolized reductant into the exhaust flow path, a mixing tube extending from the inlet into the enclosure towards a back wall of the enclosure; a plurality of catalyst cells extending parallel to the mixing tube; the exhaust flow path traveling through the plurality of catalyst cells between the mixing tube and the outlet, and a side channel located between the mixing tube and the plurality of catalyst cells. The enclosure is configured to create low back pressure and an even distribution of the exhaust flow path across the plurality of catalyst cells.

An aftertreatment system for a diesel engine is disclosed. The aftertreatment system may include a first flow conduit configured to convey an exhaust gas stream, and a first diffuser assembly positioned fluidly downstream of the first flow conduit and be configured to increase flow uniformity of the exhaust gas stream. The first diffuser assembly may include a first disperser having a honeycomb structure surrounded by a first outer frame. The first disperser may have a number of cells per square inch defining a first cell density. The aftertreatment system may also include a first selective catalytic reduction cassette positioned fluidly downstream of the first diffuser assembly, and the first selective catalytic reduction cassette may include a selective catalytic reduction catalyst.

A housing member for enclosing an aftertreatment module of an engine is provided. The housing member includes a base member, a plurality of side members extending from the base member, and a top member coupled to the plurality of side members. The base member, the plurality of side members and the top member are together configured to define an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. The housing member includes an inlet port defined on at least one of the plurality of side members and configured to communicate with the inlet chamber. The inlet port is coupled to an exhaust conduit of the engine to receive exhaust gas. The housing member includes a plurality of outlet ports defined on the top member and at least one of the plurality of side members. The plurality of outlet ports communicates with the outlet chamber to discharge the exhaust gas from the aftertreatment module.

A packaging system for enclosing an aftertreatment module associated with an engine is described. The packaging system includes a housing structure configured to enclose the aftertreatment module therein, the housing structure being coupled to an exhaust conduit of the engine. The housing structure includes a base portion and a plurality of side portions extending from the base portion. The base portion and the plurality of side portions define a chamber for receiving the aftertreatment module therein. Further, the packaging system includes a equipment rack configured to receive one or more components of the accessory system. The equipment rack includes a top end and a bottom end, the top end being distal from the bottom end and configured to couple with the base portion of the housing structure. The bottom end of the equipment rack is supported on a floor.

An aftertreatment system for an engine is provided. The aftertreatment system includes a housing member having a bottom end and a top end. The housing member includes an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber defined adjacent to the bottom end and the top end, respectively. The inlet chamber is configured to receive exhaust gas via an inlet port which is coupled to an exhaust conduit of the engine to receive exhaust gas. The outlet chamber is configured to discharge the exhaust gas via an outlet port which is coupled to an exhaust pipe to discharge exhaust gas. The housing member also includes a catalytic chamber disposed between the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber. The aftertreatment system includes one or more catalyst carrying members disposed within the catalytic chamber. Aftertreatment system for engine

A mounting system for connecting an aftertreatment component to an engine is disclosed. The mounting system may include at least one flange. The mounting system may also include a support structure having a first end connected to the at least one flange, and a second end connected to an outer shell circumferentially wrapped around the aftertreatment component. The mounting system may further include at least one seal disposed between the outer shell and an outer surface of the aftertreatment component. The at least one seal may be configured to isolate vibration of the engine from the aftertreatment component.

A two-stroke uniflow scavenged diesel engine system including an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is described for reducing NOemissions and achieving desired fuel economy by recirculating exhaust gas through the engine. More specifically, the present invention is directed to a pressure balance exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) assembly for a two-stroke locomotive diesel engine having an EGR system. The present pressure balance EGR assembly includes an EGR module adapted to define a space between the external housing wall of the DOC housing and the inner wall of the EGR module housing and a space between the external wall of the DPF housing and the inner wall of the EGR module housing. One side of each space is confined by a flange-gasket arrangement, whereas the other side of the space is in open communication with the outlet of the respective DOC or DPF such that a portion of the exhaust fills each space. As a result of this configuration, pressure between each space and the pressure in the DOC or DPF, respectively, are about equal. As a result, internal exhaust pressure which the DOC and DPF components are subjected to is balanced by the external pressure provided by the present disclosure arrangement.

A diesel locomotive burner arrangement for controlling the temperature of exhaust gas at the exhaust aftertreatment system thereby controlling the oxidation of soot within the aftertreatment system filters. The burner is arranged in isolation of the locomotive engine to ensure freedom from vibration and excessive thermal input, as well as ease of servicing.

An exhaust system for a machine is disclosed. The exhaust system may have a diffuser configured to receive exhaust from an engine. The exhaust system may further have a plurality of dosers associated with the diffuser and configured to inject fuel into the diffuser. The exhaust system may also have a controller configured to selectively control an amount of fuel injected by each of the plurality of dosers based on a velocity of the exhaust adjacent to each doser. In addition, the exhaust system may have an after-treatment component fluidly connected downstream of the diffuser and configured to heat the exhaust by oxidizing the injected fuel.

The present application generally relates to a diesel engine and, more particularly, to a control system and method for an exhaust aftertreatment system for a locomotive diesel engine. In accordance with an embodiment of the present system, a two-stroke uniflow scavenged diesel engine system including an exhaust aftertreatment system is described for reducing NOemissions and achieving desired fuel economy. More specifically, a system and method for controlling the exhaust aftertreatment system is provided. The present system being adapted to monitor and control select components of the exhaust aftertreatment system. Specifically, the control system may be adapted to control select components of an exhaust aftertreatment system to adaptively regulate filtration based on various operating conditions of the locomotive.
