A plurality of tape agents includes an autonomous master wireless tape agent. The autonomous wireless tape agent includes a first wireless communications interface type operative to communicate over a wireless communications link with an associated secondary wireless agent. The autonomous master wireless tape agent corresponds to a child node in a wireless agent hierarchy. The secondary wireless agent includes a second wireless communications interface type that has a longer wireless communications range than a wireless communications range of the first wireless communications interface type. The secondary wireless agent corresponds to a parent node in the wireless agent hierarchy. The master wireless tape agent governs the wireless communications link and traffic between the master wireless tape agent and the secondary wireless agent. The master wireless tape agent is operative to schedule a designated time slot for each secondary wireless agent transmission. The secondary wireless agent is operative to synchronize its transmit and receive timing with that of the master wireless tape agent and respond to requests received from the master wireless tape agent.

A tape node and associated methods update an integrated smart label display to redirect delivery of an associated asset. Information of the associated asset is displayed on the integrated smart label display and includes an original destination address and a barcode. When the tape node determines that the associated asset is to be redirected to an alternative destination, based on received instructions and/or at least one rule defining conditions for the associated asset, the tape node updates the displayed information to include an address of the alternative destination and updates the barcode of the associated asset on the integrated smart label display. The tape node may provide instructions for receiving a reward for recycling the tape node.

A detection system tracks assets in a galley of an aircraft. A tracked tape node attached to an asset transmits, at a first interval, a beacon including a unique identifier (ID) of the tracked tape node. One of a plurality of tracking tape nodes, each positioned in a different one of a plurality of asset slots of the aircraft galley, activates a receiver for a first period to receive the beacons and stores the unique ID and a receive signal strength indication (RSSI) of the received beacon in a list ordered on the RSSI. The tracking tape node transmits, at a second interval, a tracking beacon including a tracking ID of the tracking tape node and the list. A mobile device receives the tracking beacons and generates a data structure of assets in the galley. The mobile device compares the data structure to a manifest and graphically indicates discrepancies.

Disclosed herein is a method and system for performing audits of one or more IOT devices in an IOT system, prior to deployment of the IOT device or during deployment in the field. The audits are used to determine if an IOT device is functional and capable of performing a task assigned to the IOT device. If an audit is failed, the IOT system may determine that the IOT device is defective and needs to be replaced for the respective task. The IOT system remotely initiates the audits, and tracks the status and results of the audits of the IOT devices.
