In various aspects, power saving host-modem interactions are described herein. For instance, a host of a communication device includes a host processor that receives, via an interface, information about the reduced activity state of a modem of the communication device including an indication of the RRC state of the modem. It also receives, via the interface, information about a projected expiration of a reduced activity period of the modem including an indication of a time remaining until a next event of the modem. The host processor controls a reduction of an operation of a component of the communication device during the reduced activity period of the modem, based on the indication of the RRC state of the modem and the indication of the time remaining until the next event of the modem. The reduced activity state of the modem corresponding to the reduced activity period of the modem.

Power saving host-modem interaction in a communication device

A wireless communication device includes a processor configured to select an offload processing task for performance by an edge computing device; cause a baseband modem to establish a direct wireless connection between the wireless communication device and the edge computing device; cause the baseband modem to send first data to the edge computing device via the direct wireless connection; and receive second data from the edge computing device, wherein the second data comprise a result of the offload processing task performed on the first data. The edge computing device includes a processor configured to receive, from a user device, offloaded data to be processed according to an offload processing task; execute the offload processing task on the offloaded data; and cause the radio via the interface to wirelessly send a result of the executed offload processing task via a direct wireless connection with the user device.

Methods and devices for radio communications

A circuit arrangement includes a preprocessing circuit configured to obtain context information related to a user location, a learning circuit configured to determine a predicted user movement based on context information related to a user location to obtain a predicted route and to determine predicted radio conditions along the predicted route, and a decision circuit configured to, based on the predicted radio conditions, identify one or more first areas expected to have a first type of radio conditions and one or more second areas expected to have a second type of radio conditions different from the first type of radio conditions and to control radio activity while traveling on the predicted route according to the one or more first areas and the one or more second areas.

Communication devices and methods of data communication are herein disclosed. In some aspects, a communication device may include a host and a modem interconnected by an interface. The host includes a host processor configured to control components of the communication device and to communicate with the modem via the interface. The modem includes a modem processor configured to control components of the modem and to communicate with the host via the interface. The modem processor is further configured to communicate information on a reduced activity state and a time remaining until a next event of the modem to the host processor. The host processor is further configured to reduce an operation of at least one component of the communication device based on receipt of the information on the reduced activity state of the modem and the time remaining until the next event of the modem.

Methods and devices for allocating power among a plurality of circuits in a communication device, including determining a power budget for allocating to the plurality of circuits from a power supply information; receiving an activity status from a first circuit of the plurality of circuits; determining a first power value based on the activity status; deriving a second power value based on the first power value and the power budget; and allocating power to one or more remaining circuits of the plurality of circuits based on the second power value.

An apparatus includes logic to control heat generation in a device. The device to operate at least in one of a first state and a second state, wherein the device to consume more power in the first state than in the second state. In one instance, the method may include: first determining whether the computing device is connected to a network, based on a result of the first determining, monitoring data traffic between the computing device and the network, wherein the data traffic is associated with at least one application residing on the computing device, based on the monitoring, second determining whether the at least one application has been updated, and initiating a transition of the computing device to a sleep mode upon a result of the second determining that indicates that the at least one application has been updated. Energy-efficient application content update and sleep mode determination

A method, apparatus and system enable offloading of encryption on partitioned platforms. More specifically, a partitioned platform may include a user partition for user applications, including a Virtual Private Network ('VPN') application capable to creating a VPN connection for secure packet transmission. The partitioned platform may additionally comprise a dedicated partition including security agents to examine packets transmitted to/received by the dedicated partition. The dedicated partition may be assigned the Network Interface Card ('NIC') on the host, i.e., all network traffic coming into or leaving the platform may be routed via the dedicated partition. In one embodiment of the invention, a driver in the user partition may offload cryptographic tasks to the dedicated partition, where clear packets may be examined by security agents, then encrypted prior to transmission.

Method, apparatus and system for offloading encryption on partitioned platforms

A computer system includes a service partition, not directly accessible to a user, having a security agent to inspect data entering and exiting the computer system on a virtual private network (VPN) tunnel, and a service partition VPN unit to communicate with a VPN gateway. Method and apparatus for supporting a virtual private network architecture on a partitioned platform

A method and article for reducing power consumption for isochronous data transfers are described. The method may include receiving packets of data having multimedia information with empty spaces. The packets of data may be stored in a first buffer having a first buffer size allocated for a universal serial bus processing stack. The empty spaces may be removed from the packets of data and the packets of data having the empty spaces removed may be copied to a second buffer having a second buffer size allocated for a media information processing stack. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Method and apparatus for reducing power consumption for isochronous data transfers

In one aspect of the invention is a method for selecting a site in a network based on the IP (Internet Protocol) of a requesting system. When a request for data is made from a requesting system, the requesting system's IP address is used to determine if an edge server, that is, a streaming server co-located with the requesting system's Web host, exists for the requesting system. If an edge server for the requesting system exists, then the requesting system receives the requested data from the edge server. If no edge server exists, then the requesting system receives the requested data from a deployment server.

Site selection based on Internet Protocol address

A video conference method and apparatus for pruning mode commands received from an endpoint of a video conference so as to minimize the repetitive establishment and tearing down of video, audio and data streaming channels is described. Received mode commands are not immediately processed during call establishment of a video conference, but rather, the mode commands are stored in at least one data queue until the second phase of the capabilities exchange (i.e. initialization) is complete. The received mode commands are categorized into mutually exclusive groups of mode commands based upon the functions caused by each mode command. As the system removes the mode commands from the queue for processing, the system efficiently prunes the commands by processing only a selected sub-set of the grouped mode commands and ignoring the rest.
