N-(2-methoxyethyl)-N-isopropylacrylamide is a novel compound. The polymer obtained by polymerizing this novel compound is a novel hydrophilic-hydrophobic thermally reversible type macromolecular compound having a transition temperature in the range of 12.degree. C. to 14.degree. C.

A metal is dissolved by a method which comprises establishing contact of the metal with a quaternary ammonium compound and a halogenated hydrocarbon or with a quaternary ammonium compound, a halogenated hydrocarbon, and a polar solvent.

A dispersion containing minute polymer beads possessing a thermosensitive characteristic is produced by a method which comprises preparing an aqueous solution of an acrylamide type vinyl compound, the homopolymer of which exhibits a hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity thermoreversible solubility characteristic, adding a cationic or anionic surfactant in a ratio equaling or exceeding the micelle concentration to the aqueous solution, adjusting the resultant aqueous solution to a temperature not lower than the clouding point thereof and, at the same time, polymerizing the acrylamide type vinyl compound in the aqueous solution thereby forming a polymer emulsion, exposing the emulsion to an ionizing radiation thereby cross-linking minute polymer beads in the emulsion, and thereafter depriving the resultant polymer emulsion of the surfactant.

3-n-dodecylthiophene-3-methylthiophene copolymers are novel compounds having repeating units represented by the formula, ##STR1## and repeating units represented by the formula, ##STR2## randomly and linearly arranged and possessing a weight average molecular weight in the range of 60,000 to 100,000. 3-n-dodecylthiophene-3-methylthiophene copolymer compositions are novel compounds obtained by doping the copolymers mentioned above with a dopant. The copolymer compositions are obtained by electrolyzing a solution which consists of a supporting electrolyte capable of releasing a dopant, 3-n-dodecylthiophene, 3-methylthiphene, and a solvent. The copolymers mentioned above is produced by reducing the product of the electrolysis.

Thiophene compound and method for production thereof

A colored macromolecular polymer is produced by a method which comprises dissolving a soluble salt of a noble metal in a liquid monomer, polymerizing the monomer having the soluble salt of the noble metal dissolved therein, and subjecting the resultant solid polymer to a heat treatment at a temperature equal to or exceeding the colloid-forming temperature of the noble metal.

Method for production of colored macromolecular polymer

A fibrous support for immobilizing enzymes and cells is prepared as a roll formed by winding a braid on a tubular frame member. The braid is formed in a tubular shape with a plurality of rovings containing very thin long filaments. The roll is formed by cross-winding of the braid to crush intersecting portions of the tubular braid flat. The roll of braid has an external void ratio of 15 to 30%. The thin long filaments of the tubular braid are obtained by spinning a mixture of polymers to form a plurality of fibers containing a soluble component and an insoluble component, joining the fibers to form a roving, forming a tubular braid from a plurality of the rovings and washing the braid to dissolve out the soluble component to produce separated thin long filaments of the insoluble component.

A metal is dissolved by being brought into contact with at least one halogenated hydrocarbon in the presence of a cationic surfactant.

Immobilized enzymes are produced by adding radioresistant enzymes to 5-25% aqueous solutions of polyvinyl type high molecular compounds and irradiating the enzyme-containing solutions with a high dosage of ionizing radiant rays in an inert atomsphere or under a decreased pressure for thereby gelling said solutions.
