A method for forming multiple layers in a single process chamber includes placing a substrate in the process chamber having multiple processing sources and iteratively forming a copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS) including forming multiple relatively thin CIGS layers including forming a copper indium gallium (CIG) layer on the substrate, the CIG layer having a thickness of between less than about 50 angstroms and about 200 angstroms, forming a selenium layer on the CIG layer, the selenium layer having a thickness of between less than about 50 angstroms and about 200 angstroms and heating the substrate, the CIG layer and the selenium layer. An enhanced inductive coil design for use in data storage magnetic disk drives with areal density over 35 Gb/in, features a double wound twin coil that is able to achieve a yoke length of 15 &#x3bc;m or less by reducing the insulation spacing between the two coils. The coil further presents improved reliability by reducing the possibility of occurrence of electrical shorting. The coil is made by forming two interleafing conductors on the same layer with a demesne process. A tri-level process is implemented in the layout of the first conductor to ensure that the coil width and spacing are uniform and even, in order for the second conductor to be wound therebetween. A conformal dielectric layer of approximately 0.1 to 0.2 &#x3bc;m in thickness is deposited between the two conductors and serves as insulation. The two conductors are formed by a copper seed layer plating process that eliminates potential damage to the conductors during production.

A method of making an inductive transducer having inorganic nonferromagnetic material disposed in an apex region adjacent to a submicron nonferromagnetic gap in a magnetic core. The inorganic nonferromagnetic apex region can be made by chemical etching of a layer of inorganic nonferromagnetic material, deposition of inorganic nonferromagnetic material through a mask that is then lifted-off, or anisotropic etching of a layer of inorganic nonferromagnetic material that is covered by a hardbaked photoriesist mask.

Method of making transducer with inorganic nonferromagnetic apex region

A merged thin film read/write head having a read element having a first shield layer, a second shield layer and a magnetoresistive element disposed between the first and second shield layers, a thin spacer layer of nonmagnetic material formed upon the second shield layer and an inductive write element having a first pole pedestal formed upon the spacer layer and a second pole separated from the pedestal by a gap. The pedestal includes a tapered portion for reducing the formation of pinned magnetic domains in the pedestal and providing improved flux passage. In combination with the thin nonmagnetic spacer layer, the tapered feature of the pedestal eliminates popcorn noise in the read element.

Merged read/write head and method of fabricating same

The present invention describes a write element for a magnetic recording device that incorporates a second pole pedestal with a tapered shape. This tapered shape substantially reduces side-writing and the second pulse effect, each of which can limit maximum areal densities of information recorded on magnetic media. The present invention further includes a magnetic recording device incorporating a write element with a tapered second pole pedestal within the read/write head. The present invention also includes a method for producing a write element incorporating a tapered second pole pedestal.
