The present invention relates to plant-produced angiogenins, to related plant cells, plant calli, plants, seeds and other plant parts and products derived therefrom and to uses of plant-produced angiogenins. The present invention also relates to expression of angiogenin genes in plants and to related nucleic acids, constructs and methods.

Angiogenin expression in plants

The present invention relates to the modification of lignin biosynthesis in plants, to enzymes involved in the lignin biosynthetic pathway and nucleic acids encoding such enzymes and, more particularly, to methods of modifying lignin biosynthesis via sense suppression and to related nucleic acids and constructs.

Genetic constructs capable of manipulating fructan biosynthesis in photosynthetic cells of a plant include a promoter, or functionally active fragment or variant thereof, operatively linked to a nucleic acid encoding a bacterial FT enzyme, or a functionally active fragment or variant thereof. Such constructs can be used in the modification of fructan biosynthesis in plants and, more particularly, to methods of manipulating fructan biosynthesis in photosynthetic cells, for increasing plant biomass and, more particularly, to methods of enhancing biomass yield and/or yield stability, including shoot and/or root growth in a plant, and for enhancing the productivity of biochemical pathways.

The present invention also relates to increasing plant biomass and, more particularly, to methods of enhancing biomass yield and/or yield stability, including shoot and/or root growth in a plant, and to related nucleic acids and constructs. Genetic constructs capable of manipulating fructan biosynthesis in photosynthetic cells of a plant, said genetic constructs include a promoter operatively linked to a nucleic acid encoding a bacterial FT enzyme. These constructs can be used in modification of fructan biosynthesis in plants and, more particularly, for manipulating fructan biosynthesis in photosynthetic cells. The constructs can also be used for increasing plant biomass and, more particularly, for enhancing biomass yield and/or yield stability, including shoot and/or root growth in a plant, and for enhancing the productivity of biochemical pathways.

More particularly, the protein involved in flavonoid biosynthesis is selected from the group consisting of TRANSPARENT TESTA 12 (TT12), TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA 1 (TTG1), TRANSPARENT TESTA 2 (TT2), TRANSPARENT TESTA 8 (TT8), Ieucoanthocyanidin dioxygenase (LDOX), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (C4H), 4-coumaroyl:CoA-ligase (4CL); and functionally active fragments and variants thereof.

Modification of flavonoid biosynthesis in plants

The present invention relates to nucleic acids encoding flavonoid biosynthetic enzymes, flavonoid-regulating transcription factors and a flavonoid-specific membrane transporter in plants, and the use thereof for the modification of flavonoid biosynthesis in plants. The present invention also relates to constructs and vectors including such nucleic acids, and related polypeptides. More particularly, the protein involved in flavonoid biosynthesis is selected from the group consisting of: MADS box factor, WRKY box factor, MYC factor, TT1, HLH factor, MYB factor, FMT, UG3E, GST, OMT, RT, CYTb5, laccase, and ABC transporter proteins, and functionally active fragments and variants thereof.
