An information handling system sets, in response to a power event, a discrete graphics processing unit to transmit graphics data to an external display monitor and an internal display panel. In response to determining that a hybrid graphics mode is enabled and that a video driver has been loaded, the system switches a source of the graphics data to the internal display panel from the discrete graphics processing unit to an integrated graphics processing unit while keeping the discrete graphics processing unit to provide the graphics data to the external display monitor.

An edge connector for coplanar coupling of two printed circuit boards (PCBs) comprises an elongated body and two end structures. The elongated body has a compression contact space and two PCB contact surfaces, each PCB contact surface having a plurality of contact positions. Portions of compression contacts positioned in the compression contact space extend through contact positions on both PCB contact surfaces. When a PCB edge surface contacts a PCB contact surface of the elongated body, an edge connection on the PCB edge surface contacts a compression contact, forming an electrical connection. Each end structure has two contact pairs, wherein each contact pair has attaching features that couple the edge connector to a PCB to maintain the electrical connection. When two PCBs are coupled to the edge connector, the compression contacts form electric paths for conducting power and/or communication between the two PCBs.

A system and method of implementing an adaptable graphics board comprising the adaptable graphics board including a graphics processor, graphics memory, and a reconfigurable I/O module interface are having a plurality of electrical contacts, a dual compression connector having a first array of compressible electrical spring contacts on a first side and a second array of compressible electrical spring contacts on a second side operatively coupled to the first side via a dual compression connector printed circuit board layer, the first side of the dual compression connector operatively coupled to the reconfigurable I/O module interface of the adaptable graphics board, and a reconfigurable I/O module board having external display data ports disposed along an edge, wherein the reconfigurable I/O module board is operatively coupled to the adaptable graphics board via the second side of the dual compression connector. The dual compression connector is oriented between the adaptable graphics board and the reconfigurable I/O module board in a first orientation selected from a plurality of available orientations to provide I/O connectivity between the graphics processor and the external display data ports aligned along a first edge of the adaptable graphics board.

Fault resilient booting of complex multi-rail processors in an information handling system insures that all processor voltage rails are functioning properly before any processor fetches operating software code. In addition, the information handling system will automatically reboot when one or more of the processors fail during either a built-in self test (BIST) or a power failure provided that there is at least one good processor remaining in the information handling system to power-on self-test (POST) the information handling system again.

The need for a SAF-TE processor embedded on a SCSI backplane of a hot-swap hard disk drive enclosure is eliminated by utilizing the functionality of a RAID on motherboard (ROMB) controller and an Embedded Server Management (ESM) interface already present in an information handling system. Only sensors and input-output (I/O) registers remain on the SCSI backplane as required. The SCSI backplane I/O is split between the ESM and ROMB according to functional requirements.

When a power supply is turned off its output voltages decrease over certain times. If the power supply is turned back on before the output voltages have had time to decrease to a level required by certain electronic circuits before power is reapplied, then these electronic circuits may malfunction or latch-up. A power supply shutdown control monitors voltage levels of the power supply. The power supply shutdown control prevents the power supply from being turned back on before the output voltages have reached a sufficiently low voltage level. A voltage reset monitor determines when a power supply voltage drops below a certain level, and then a memory device stores the instance of a power supply voltage drop and uses the stored instance to prevent the power supply from being turned on until the monitored voltage(s) have reached the sufficiently low voltage level. Then, the stored instance is reset and the power supply may be re-energized.
