A wear-resistant annular seal assembly has a plurality of interlocking one-piece seal segments interleaved with a plurality of two-piece seal segments. The seal segments are made using wear-resistant rigid material such as steel, stainless steel or a composite material. In one embodiment the seal segments are coated with a fluoropolymer. A straddle packer includes a first and second spaced apart ones of the wear-resistant seal assemblies and a linear force generator for urging the first and second seal assemblies to a seal-set condition.

A straddle packer for proppant-laden fracturing fluids has a slotted frac sub with a proppant filtration plug body that excludes proppant in the fracturing fluid from a central passage of the straddle packer downhole from the slotted frac hub. Pressure equalization sleeve filters exclude an entry of debris in a well bore through pressure equalization ports of the straddle packer.

A pre-set inhibiting extrusion limiter has a segmented anti-extrusion ring with a plurality of anti-extrusion ring segments supported by a stepped cone frustum. Each ring segment is retained in a run-in condition by a compression spring retained by a retainer ring held in a retainer ring groove in the respective anti-extrusion ring segments. A push ring moves the respective anti-extrusion ring segments from the run-in condition to a packer-set condition in which the anti-extrusion ring segments abut a cone frustum step of the stepped cone frustum.

A fluid-pressure-set uphole end for a hybrid straddle packer has a multicomponent mandrel with a fixed piston and a multicomponent sliding sleeve with a sliding sleeve piston housing that houses the fixed piston. The multicomponent sliding sleeve reciprocates within a limited range on the multicomponent mandrel in response to fluid pressure pumped into a central passage of the multicomponent mandrel. An anti-set spring constantly resists relative movement between the multicomponent mandrel and the multicomponent sliding sleeve and returns the uphole end to a run-in condition when fluid pressure in the central passage is released.

A single-set anti-extrusion ring has a plurality of ring segments with a mating face on each end. Each mating face has a 3-dimensionally curved topology and the first mating face is a mirror image of the second mating face so the ring segments fit together to form and anti-extrusion ring without gaps in an unexpanded condition, and no straight path through the anti-extrusion ring in an expanded condition.

An anchoring extrusion limiter for a non-retrievable packer has a plurality of ring segments with a top surface having at least one ring segment insert designed to bite and grip a well casing in which a packer is set. The anchoring extrusion limiter inhibits an extrusion of a main sealing element of the packer while providing anchoring backup to the anchoring slips of the packer.

A composite frac plug has an elastomeric gripper assembly in place of an up-hole set of slips. The elastomeric gripper assembly permits the composite frac plug to be shorter and lighter and more rapidly drilled out after fracking is completed.

A high-expansion packer element is injection molded from chemical-resistant elastomers and provided with multiple upsets in an inner surface of the sidewall to relieve stress as the high-expansion packer element is compressed and held in a set condition.
