Techniques are provided for planning frequency spectrum and power allocated to transmission points of a radio network that is controlled by a spectrum access system and shares spectrum with incumbents and/or other secondary users (e.g., external radio(s)). Techniques are also provided for managing communications between components of the radio network and the spectrum access system, and to allocate frequency spectrum and maximum transmission power to component(s) of a radio network.

Systems and methods for planning and operating radios controlled by a spectrum access system

One embodiment is directed to a universal digital card (UDC) for use in a node of a distributed antenna system (DAS). The UDC is configured to convert data between an external interface format used to communicate on an external communication link and a fronthaul interface format natively used in the DAS. The UDC is configured to be selectively used either as: a donor card to communicatively couple the node to one or more base station entities via the external digital interface or a distribution card to communicatively couple the node to one or more non-DAS nodes, hubs, switches, or remote radio heads or one or more other DAS nodes access points. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Universal digital card (UDC) for use as digital donor card or digital distribution card

In one embodiment, an over-the-air millimeter wave repeater for a communications network comprises: a donor unit including a first plurality of modular electronic components and an access point including a second plurality of modular electronic components. The donor unit communicates downlink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from a base station to the access point and radiates uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the access point to the base station. The access point radiates the downlink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the donor unit into a coverage area, receives the uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals received from the coverage area, and communicates the uplink mmWave spectrum wireless signals to the donor unit. The first and second plurality of modular electronic components includes at least one of a modular antenna component, a modular signal conditioning component, a modular signal interface component, and a modular controller.

Millimeter wave repeater systems and methods

Certain aspects are directed to a configuration sub-system for telecommunication systems. The configuration sub-system can include a test signal generator, a power measurement device, at least one additional power measurement device, and a controller. The test signal generator can be integrated into components of a telecommunication system. The test signal generator can provide a test signal to a signal path of the telecommunication system. The power measurement device and the additional power measurement device can respectively be integrated into different components of the telecommunication system. The power measurement device and the additional power measurement device can respectively measure the power of the test signal at different measurement points in the signal path. The controller can normalize signals transmitted via the telecommunication system by adjusting a path gain for the signal path based on measurements from the power measurement device and the additional power measurement device.
