A vehicle is determined to be in a parking area based on vehicle sensor data. A mapping operation mode is activated based on determining the vehicle is in the parking area. A travel path of the vehicle through the parking area is recorded based on receiving a user input selecting the mapping operation mode. A map of the parking area is updated based on the recorded travel path.

Method for operating a motor vehicle with a remotely controlled parking assistant

A system includes a first computer and a second computer. The first computer is programmed to receive a request from the second computer to move a vehicle from a first location to a second location and synchronize a timer stored in each of the computers. The first computer determines a route including waypoints from the first location to the second location and determines predicted travel times for legs of the route. The predicted travel times include a first predicted travel time for a first leg defined from the first location to a first waypoint included in the waypoints and the first computer transmits the route and the travel times to the second computer. The second computer is programmed to determine an elapsed time of travel and predict a location of the vehicle based on the elapsed time of travel and the first predicted travel time.

Determining a vehicle route

A computer includes a processor and a memory storing instructions executable by the processor to identify a current location of the vehicle in a map of a stopping area, collect data to calibrate a sensor while the vehicle is moving in the stopping area, calibrate the sensor based on the collected data, and actuate one or more vehicle components to move the vehicle to a stopping location in the stopping area based on the location of the vehicle in the map and data collected by the calibrated sensor.

Enhanced vehicle operation

While operating a vehicle on a travel path, a width of the travel path is determined based on a map. Upon detecting a presence or an absence of a target vehicle in the travel path, a lateral position for the vehicle on the travel path is determined based on the width of the travel path and the presence or absence of the target vehicle. The vehicle is controlled to operate according to the determined lateral position on the travel path and a speed of the vehicle that is based on the determined lateral position on the travel path.

Vehicle operation

While a vehicle is operated from a first area to a second area based on a stored route, one or more turning regions are identified along the stored route based on sensor data. Upon selecting one turning region, a route is determined from the second area to the first area via the selected turning region based on the stored route. Upon receiving a message from a handheld device, the vehicle is actuated to operate along the route and turn around in the selected turning region.

Operating a motor vehicle

While a vehicle is in an off state, expiration of a timer and receipt of a first message from a user device are monitored. Upon determining that at least one of the timer has expired or that the first message is received from the user device, a communication network onboard the vehicle is then monitored for a specified set of fault conditions. While a vehicle is in an area, a stored map uncertainty value of map data for the area is retrieved. The stored map uncertainty value gives a range of uncertainty for at least one indicator of a travel path specified by the map data. Upon estimating the travel path and a vehicle pose, a dynamic map uncertainty value is determined based on a pose uncertainty value and a travel path uncertainty value. The pose uncertainty value gives a range of uncertainty for the vehicle pose in three degrees-of-freedom based on vehicle sensor data, and the travel path uncertainty value gives a range of uncertainty for the at least one indicator of the estimated travel path based on vehicle sensor data. Upon determining that the dynamic map uncertainty value is less than the stored map uncertainty value, the map data is updated based on the vehicle sensor data. Upon updating the map data, the vehicle is operated based on the updated map data.

A sub-area in an area is identified as an authorized sub-area for a vehicle to access based on detecting a first object in the sub-area from first sensor data. Then a parameter of the first object is determined from the first sensor data. Upon detecting a second object in the sub-area from second sensor data, a parameter of the second object is determined based on the second sensor data. The sub-area is determined valid based on determining the parameter of the second object is different than the parameter of the first object.
