A package for securing a PCB to a heatsink includes mounts with over-torque protection features. The PCB is seated in an open end of the package. Each mount includes a threaded opening for securing the package to the heatsink such that the base layer of the PCB is thermally coupled to the heat sink. The over-torque protection features are connected between the threaded opening and a sidewall of the package. The over-torque protection features may be designed to structurally fail and/or deform in response to over-torqueing of the fasteners, thereby inhibiting flexure of the PCB.

An enclosed digital power amplifier has features for accommodating thermal cycling. The digital power amplifier includes an amplifier board and a controller board, both of which are in a protective housing. The amplifier board includes electronic components mounted on a copper circuit layer that is disposed on a dielectric layer that is disposed on an aluminum substrate layer. The housing includes slotted mounting projections that extend from sidewalls to isolate fasteners from the aluminum substrate layer, and thereby accommodate expansion of the aluminum substrate layer while the digital power amplifier is secured to a surface by the fasteners. Bottom edges of the sidewalls contact a top outer edge of the amplifier board. The mounting projections contact side outer edges of the first circuit board. At least a portion of the aluminum substrate layer extends beyond the bottom edges of the sidewalls of the housing, forming an end wall, such that the housing does not inhibit thermally coupling the aluminum substrate layer to another surface such as a heat exchanger.

Dissipating heat from an electronic device in a protective housing

A motor control module provides control of a plurality of different motor types, such as a 1-phase DC Brush motor, a 3-phase brushless DC motor, and a 2-phase step motor. The module includes a digital amplifier that is configurable to drive the plurality of different motor types. A motor control unit, coupled to the digital amplifier, controls a motor type driven by the digital amplifier via a command signal to the digital amplifier. The motor control unit also monitors status information about the motor control module, including status information about the digital amplifier. A motor coil interface is coupled to the digital amplifier and configured to connect with the plurality of different motor types.

Multi-motor controller

A gas turbine engine having an air compressor and a combustion chamber connected to the air compressor for burning fuel with air from the air compressor. The combustion chamber also has water and/or steam as input. The water and/or steam is combined with the gases generated by the burning of the fuel to generate a gaseous output that drives first and second turbines. A heat recovery system recovers heat and water from the gaseous output after the gaseous output has passed through the turbines. The water is used as the water source for the combustion chamber and for cooling the turbines. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the heat recovery system utilizes a supercritical heat exchanger. Some of the recovered heat is preferably utilized to drive a third expander. In systems designed to accommodate a variable load, the preferred embodiment of an engine according to the present invention includes a device for regulating the fraction of the gaseous output from the combustion system that passes through the second turbine. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the device is a valve or variable geometry inlet nozzle blades in the second turbine. The valve preferably operates by regulating the back-pressure to which the second turbine is subjected. Alternatively, the variable load may be accommodated by utilizing separate combustion chambers for the two turbines and regulating the rate of fuel consumption in one or both of the combustion chambers. A conventional gas turbine engine may be converted to a turbine according to the present invention by adding a second turbine of the same capacity as the existing turbine and a heat recovery system and by modifying the combustion chamber to accept a water input.

Water-injected stoichiometric-combustion gas turbine engine

A dual cycle engine which includes both a steam turbine and a gas turbine. The engine includes an air compressor and a combustion chamber connected to the air compressor for burning fuel with air from the air compressor to generate a first gaseous output which drives a gas turbine. The engine also includes a heat recovery system for recovering heat from the gaseous output of the gas turbine after the gaseous output has passed through the gas turbine. The heat recovery system includes a heat exchanger for extracting heat from the gaseous output and for heating an input water stream to generate steam. The steam is heated further in a superheater that burns fuel and air at the same pressure as the combustion chamber to generate a second gaseous output that is combined with the output of the combustion chamber prior to the output from the combustion chamber being passed through the gas turbine. The steam from the superheater is expanded in a steam turbine to generate work therefrom. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the heat exchanger is a supercritical heat exchanger. The water input stream is preferably generated by condensing water from the gaseous output after the gaseous output has passed through the heat exchanger. The superheater may be constructed by utilizing a heat exchanger in the combustion chamber. In embodiments of the present invention that utilize a steam injected gas turbine, the steam injection is provided by the output of the steam turbine.

Dual cycle turbine engine having increased efficiency and heat recovery

A two-stage rotating vane device comprising an outer stator defining a plurality of ports and an elliptically or cylindrically shaped interior cavity surface, with an inner stator defining a plurality of ports, the inner stator either being elliptically shaped or configured in a predetermined shape and located in the elliptically or cylindrically shaped interior cavity. A rotor is disposed in the elliptically or cylindrically shaped interior cavity between the interior cavity surface of the outer stator and the inner stator, the rotor defining a plurality of slots. A plurality of slidable vanes are situated in the plurality of slots for spanning between the interior cavity surface of the outer stator and the inner stator, and wherein a first stage is defined between the inner stator and the rotor, and a second stage is defined between the interior cavity surface of the outer stator and the rotor, the first and second stages communicating with each other. The present invention can be configured as a two-stage compressor, expander, or turbine engine, or combinations of these.

A power generating combustion system and method are provided with a first stage combustion system that may include a wet oxidation reactor or a direct contact boiler and a second stage combustor including a stoichiometric burner to produce the substantially complete combustion of a wide range of fuels and mixtures of fuels to produce combustion products usable in generating power. The system design temperatures and pressures allow the substantially complete combustion of garbage, municipal and industrial waste and low quality fuels to generate power.

An improved thermal efficiency power plant for converting fuel energy to shaft horsepower is described. The conventional combustor of a gas tubine power plant is replaced by a direct contact steam boiler 8, modified to produce a mixture of superheated steam and combustion gases. Combustion takes place preferably at stoichiometric conditions. The maximum thermal efficiency of the disclosed plant is achievable at much higher pressures than conventional gas turbines. Uses of multi-stage compression turbines (4, 9, 1, 10) with intercooling (2, 3) and regeneration (16, 17, 18, 19) is utilized along with a vapor bottoming cycle (11, 12, 13) to achieve a thermal efficiency greater tha 60% with a maximum drive turbine inlet temperature of 1600 degrees Fahrenheit.
