This invention relates to a new form of crystalline material identified as having the structure of ZSM-23, to a new and useful method for synthesizing said crystalline material and to use of said crystalline material prepared in accordance herewith as a catalyst for organic compound, e.g., hydrocarbon compound, conversion.

Synthesis of crystalline ZSM-23

The invention is directed to nitrogenous 1,3-substituted adamantanes, their preparation and use in synthesis of inorganic porous solids. The nitrogenous 1,3-substituted adamantanes are compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a nitrogenous moiety selected from the group consisting of --(CH.sub.2).sub.n-1 CONR'.sub.2, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n NR'.sub.2 and --(CH.sub.2).sub.n NR'.sub.3.sup.+ A.sup.-, wherein R' is lower alkyl of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, n=1 to 5, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are selected from H and alkyl groups of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and A.sup.- is an anion.

Synthesis of crystalline silicate ZSM-12

There is provided a highly porous amorphous titania or titania/silica material. The material may be prepared by gelling a reaction mixture comprising hydrolyzable titanium and optionally, hydrolyzable silicon compounds, such as titanium diisopropoxide (2,4-pentanedionate) and tetraethylorthosilicate, a nonaqueous solvent, such as ethanol, and water, followed by drying the gel. The titania or titania/silica material may be used as a catalyst, a catalyst support or a sorbent.
