Infusion systems and methods for infusing one or more drugs or other agents into the body of a human or animal subject. The system is programmed to take remedial action(s) upon sensing of a fault or error in connection with the infusion. In some embodiments, an agent may be infused through redundant flowpaths and, if a fault occurs in one flowpath, the system may respond by increasing flowrate through other non-faulting flowpath(s). In some embodiments, the fault may be a physiological reaction or symptom in the subject and the system may respond by adjusting or stopping flowrate(s) or one or more agents or changing the ratio of simultaneously infused agents.

Rotary axial peristaltic pumps, related methods and components. The rotary axial peristaltic pump generally comprises a platen having a platen surface, a tube positioned adjacent to the platen surface, cam that rotates about a rotational axis and has a cam surface that is spaced apart from the platen surface and a plurality of tube compressing fingers. The fingers move axially back and forth in sequence to sequentially compress segments or regions of the tube against the platen surface, thereby causing peristaltic movement of fluid through the tube. The fingers move back and forth on axes that are substantially parallel to the axis about which the cam rotates.

A method of storing on a remote storage device protocol information for a drug for administration via a peristaltic pump is disclosed. A communications path between the peristaltic pump and the remote storage device is provided. The protocol information for the drug is entered into the peristaltic pump. The protocol information is transferred from the peristaltic pump to the remote storage device. The protocol information for the drug is stored on the remote storage device. History information may be retrieved from the peristaltic pump. A user request is received requesting retrieval of history information from the peristaltic pump. A pump request is formatted to retrieve history information. The pump request to receive history information is transmitted to the peristaltic pump. The history information is received from the peristaltic pump. The history information is displayed and stored.

A peristaltic pump for pumping liquids through a resilient tube. In one embodiment, the pump includes a curved concave platen against which a resilient tube is placed. A multi lobed cam is positioned adjacent to the platen and tube. A plurality of pump fingers are mounted between tube and cam in a manner permitting radial movement of the pump fingers. As the cam rotates, the fingers are pressed toward the tube sequentially so as to pump liquid through the tube. The lobe end should press the tube sufficiently to occlude the tube and prevent back flow without over pressing and damaging the tube. A transverse pinch finger is provided on each pump finger, extending from the tube pressing face of each pump finger. At the tube occluding position, the pump finger nearly occludes the tube and the pinch finger completes occlusion without pressing the tube beyond the fully occluded position. A fixed or slidable spring pressed pinch finger may be used. In a second embodiment, the pump fingers also include pinch fingers and are moved toward and away from a planar platen by a plurality of cams mounted transversely on a rotatable shaft. The pinch fingers operate in the same manner as in the first embodiment.

A disposable tubing set having an array of flexible tubing and a method for holding an array of flexible tubing. The disposable tubing set has a frame for holding segments of the tubing. The frame includes at least two sides and a plurality of apertures defined in the sides. Segments of the tubing extend through and are completely enclosed by the apertures.

A curvilinear peristaltic pump for pumping liquids through a resilient tube. The pump includes a curved concave platen against which a resilient tube is placed. A multi-lobed cam is positioned adjacent to the platen and tube. A plurality of pump fingers, each carrying a pinch finger, are mounted between tube and cam in a manner permitting radially outward movement of the pump fingers toward the platen. As the cam rotates, the fingers are pressed against the tube sequentially so as to pump liquid through the tube. A strain gauge beam is secured to the pump just beyond each end of the pump finger set. A sensing member secured to the free end of the beam is pre-loaded against the tube next to each endmost pump finger. When an input occlusion occurs, the tubing will collapse causing the beam to deflect toward the tube, changing its pre-load state. This motion will cause a negative voltage change indicative of the input occlusion. At the other side, an output occlusion will cause the tubing to inflate, moving the beam member outward and deflecting the beam to cause a positive voltage change.
